atheists: do you have anything in common with conspiracy theorists?

i sometimes think that atheists approach religion the same way a truther approaches 9/11. the truther says that the american government caused 9/11 and that people who say otherwise are liars. the atheist will say that the resurrection was a "cunningly devised fable 2 Peter 1:16-21 " and that people who say otherwise are liars. some conspiracy theorists will say that it was "obvious" that princess diana or the politician john smith was murdered just like some atheists will say its "obvious" that the resurrection did not happen and god is not real.

    You're just being silly now.

The Iliad is much older than the Bible. It is written down. So why don't you believe it and the Odyssey?

Don't you believe Odysseus went to Hades and returned? It is all written down in an old book. So why don't you believe in Aphrodite, Athena, Zeus, and Apollo -- their roles in the Trojan War are all written about in an old book. Maybe you think Homer was a conspiracy. If you do not believe Homer, aren't you really saying it was all a conspiracy?

God is imaginary and will remain so until he gets off his high horse and convinces me otherwise...a *REAL* god would know how to do that... OR one of more of his minions to present evidence AND... a *REAL* god would NOT allow the likes of Pat Robertson, Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer, Kenneth Copeland (and anyone else mentioned here http://www.inplainsite.org/html/tele-evangelist_li... or http://adultthought.ucsd.edu/culture_war/the_ameri... ) to advertise on 'his' behalf... just saying ;)

No, we approach religion in the same way a rational adult approaches belief in Santa

By Occam's Razor, the conspiracists are usually wrong, since their explanations rely on ad hocs and special pleading.

I think the belief that God created the universe sounds like a conspiracy itself.

It is obvious that Diana was killed. It doesn't take a genius to work that one out. But there is a difference with piecing obvious things together and understanding reality and science. A BIG difference.

    Some centuries ago people said

"Religion effects everything" and everybody tried to find the truth about God.

Nowadays, people say "Politics effect everything" and you guys are trying to find

"Why 9/11? Why murders?? Why illuminati?? Why bla bla bla.."

somebody told beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Its true,

I see 3/4 of people on earth are friendly and kind while you people see they are atheist, they are Satanic, they are religious and some utter rubbish.

We are normal people and we talk with normal people. I cannot ring my president or Skype President of other countries... So, why care about their shits!

An atheist approaches religion by saying 'show me evidence that this is actually true', and finding that there is no evidence at all, rejects the claim.

The bible is a claim, it is not proof. Why do you have problems grasping that?

I would never refer to the resurrection as "cunningly devised". Its one of silliest, poorly executed, plot points ever created.

Conspiracy theorists *propose* silly explanations with little to no evidence. Atheists generally reject silly explanations that have little to no evidence. We're opposites.

Is it so difficult for you to address the actual claim atheism makes that you have to consistently build straw men?

    No I don't !

I don't believe that any God has ever existed, full stop.

Which means I refute any religious books and any religion which claims that a God does exist.

Don't take it to heart, it's nothing personal.

These conspiracy theories you mention have nothing whatsoever to do with my non-belief in deities.
