What Texas Oil Job has the following description?

Last summer while vacationing on the Texas coast, I had a long conversation with a man in the pool about his job. He was telling me he worked long hours, 7 on and 7 off (days), had a company truck to drive to work from his home, and made great money. He and his son did the same work.

He basically described his work as sitting in an excavator for long hours, spinning the bucket to mix up waste oil with a detergent to make it safe for disposal?

I was starting to think of a new job, and have been kicking myself for not getting his contact information on the spot. I have looked up oil field jobs, but have been unable to find the job he described.

Any help identifying this position from an oil field worker out there?

This job is called "solids control".

They do a lot more than just the back hoe but it's all the same area and the equipment works together. It's a pretty laid back job with decent money. Truck, pay, schedule- all would depend on the company you work for. Experience will be key at first... "Foot in door."

You'll be working around Lime and other potentially hazardous materials. Also it's on a drilling location which is also potentially hazardous.

Below is a link to an actual job opening to point you in the right direction. It lists the duties and responsibilities and sounds difficult and complex... The company will provide training and you'll know how everything works, so don't sweat that. Also the experience part... If you have any kind of construction/farm/military experience you can sell that just say "safety" about a dozen times and say you're looking for a career not just a job...Etc etc.

He is likely an independent contractor doing waste disposal and likely works with another company or else has his own approved disposal site.
