  • Mutual fund for 7 year old?

We have managed to save around $7,000 for our 7 year old son in a money market account at the wife's credit union. In the mean time, our credit card balances have increased. I was thinking about halting further savings into his account, and using the money to ward the credit card debt we have.

Since the money market account bears less than 1%, I was thinking of moving that money into a mutual fund hoping for greater returns, especially since we may not be adding to the principal for a while.

The obvious questions are: is it a good idea, would it remain a joint account (us and him or just him), how will gains be taxed yearly/or upon withdrawal), where is the easiest place to start one?

    Any other info is helpful.

I know a Roth IRA would be great for this amount per year, but since he's not employed (for many years), its not an option....right?

  • What Texas Oil Job has the following description?

Last summer while vacationing on the Texas coast, I had a long conversation with a man in the pool about his job. He was telling me he worked long hours, 7 on and 7 off (days), had a company truck to drive to work from his home, and made great money. He and his son did the same work.

He basically described his work as sitting in an excavator for long hours, spinning the bucket to mix up waste oil with a detergent to make it safe for disposal?

I was starting to think of a new job, and have been kicking myself for not getting his contact information on the spot. I have looked up oil field jobs, but have been unable to find the job he described.

Any help identifying this position from an oil field worker out there?

  • How to attract chiropractic patients?

I have operated a small chiropractic office for years. I feel I have been able to help patients in many cases much faster and cheaper than had they chosen the traditional medical route and even compared to other chiropractic offices which see more patients and make a better living than I.

I always do my best to try and recommend the treatment each patient needs, and while most of my patients receive therapy, manipulation, and eventually exercises as part of their care...not everyone is put on a 3 times a week schedule from the beginning...then 2 times a week...and so on that offices seeing more/making more will do for everybody they see, whether they need it or not.

Admittedly, I have tried advertising over the years, but only when things are looking bleak, and I therefore have the least amount of savings to spend. When I have, it seems business may pick up temporarily, and I seem to break even at best, but rarely profit, the new business hardly ever seems to come from the advertising. When things have improved I begin to feel like things have turned around and stop. So far business has eventually improved, but I never know when, or for how long it will last, and its getting old.

I have been the doctor for so long that I no longer know how patients think at their time of need, or how other patients chose a chiropractor because they want to take advantage of it as a health maintenance program.

With all of that said, what are ways that the average person goes about looking for a chiropractor when they feel they need one? What conditions would you say people associate with a chiropractor helping? Would patients actually value a chiropractor more if they had every exam, test, x-ray, and long treatment plans of 30 visits laid out in front of them on the first or second visit, or would they value a chiropractor more that offers a good explanation, educates, offers fast relief cost effective relief in 4-6 visits, and then discuss the benefits of ongoing care to prevent recurrence/wellness? Are there things a chiropractor have told you that really helped you understand the benefits of care and kept you coming back because you wanted too?

Thanks for your input in advance.

  • A free print "archiver" available?

I share an office with someone who uses my office equipment (ie printer, paper, ect.). He connects to the network printer through the front office computer which the laser printer is connected. The front computer has to be on for him to print.

I have recently become quite curious if he uses my printer/paper after hours to print "self-promotional" items that are supposed to be done at his own cost.

I did a WWW search and came up with a program...but its not too clear how it works. If anyone could give me tips or a program to be able to "View" what he prints (not really spying since it is my printer supplies ect) to prove/disprove my suspicions.

  • Today my computer would not boot up?

After re-seating video card, ram, resetting cmos, multiple tries I was not able to get past the starting beep...no video..nothing but fans running but no action.

I found I CAN boot up normally and use computer now, but can only have 1 stick of ram for it to work. It doesn't matter what stick I use it seems...but more than one and now I get initial boot screen (of MOBO not windows) but does not progress.

  • What do you call it when?

Your wife has an obsession with filling every square foot of a room/wall/patio/backyard with things? Yes all the things sound reasonable when you ask her and there is no convincing otherwise.

  • Need Help Identifying missing part?

My assistant ran over a dead dear in the road and there were a couple wires and a tube left dangling from the car just in front of the gas tank. The check engine light is on, but otherwise drives normally.

We looked under another mazda tribute at lunch, and there is a large black plastic box which is apparently missing!

Any idea what the box is? I'm assuming its smething to do with the emissions system, since such a large piece is missing and the car seems to run slightly better with it on the side of the road somewhere.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Verifying if Home Owners Association is legit?

I have heard that some HOA's operate, and collect your money, have meetings and such...but if they are not in good status with the state corporation laws...the HOA does not have the right to ask/take your money?

Something similar happened to an aunt years ago...and it wasn't until an attorney moved in that people began to realize the HOA hadn't filled the proper papers in years...

Anyway...How would one verify if the HOA is legit? Any ideas where to look?

  • NO GOAL in last nights game?

What kind of penalty will the referees and the video replay judges face after disallowing the Datsyuk goal because "Holmstrom interferred with the goalie"??

He clearly was outside the line and no contact.

I may be biased as a fan...but everyone knows that the redwings game is totally different with a lead...and that call changed the out come of the game.

  • Bathtub caulk slow to dry?

There was craking caulk in 2 of our bathrooms. The master bath has a plastic wallboard type surround and there is a plastic (similar material as the surround). The other bath has ceramic tile and a steel tub.

I have removed the caulk from both with a razer blade and cleaned the seems. I started caulking the master and waited 3 days before using it and even then the caulk was a bit tacky. After about a week...the caulk failed. I removed the caulk again (this time much easier)...and cleaned the plastic with rubbing alcohol. After it dried I Applied BRAND NEW caulk.

Later this evening I cleaned up the other bathtub...cleaned the seems with alcohol...and caulked it with a different tube of brand new caulk.

I just checked and the master tub (plastic surround is a bit tacky after 6 hours..and the one I did 2 hours ago is almost dry already to the touch..almost no tack.

WHAT GIVES? (both were from same manfact. bought different colors on accident thats why I used 2 diff caulks)

  • Does mercury cause Autism?

Today the CDC released a study that shows no clear relationship to Thimerisol and neurologic problems. But why did they not include Autism? And why would they repeatedly only review the preservative thimerisol...and not the cascade of other chemicals and chemical reactions the vaccine involves? Is the CDC think it is fooling anyone??? My guess is that they know the process of vaccinating does lead to problems...but the lobby dollar gets them to focus on crap.
