"What is the solution to the growing homophobia within Russia?"

It's hard to propose a solution since you're never going to be able to accurately predict the outcome of whatever you do and considering the current views and situation in Russia, everything pro-LGBT will be met with large opposition both legal and social.

As I see it, there are two ways of going about it and both are likely to incite high levels of hostility from the general public of Russia potentially resulting in protests, riots or large scale witch-hunts:

1) Change the laws in such a way that LGBT have legal support. Then slowly start working on the views of society to match those of the laws.

2) Change the general view of society towards a more tolerant or even accepting view at which point changing the laws to a more supportive form will be easier and basically becomes the result of the will of the people.

I know that international pressure is also an option but that will ultimately still result in either of the aforementioned option, most likely number one. Also, Russia has already shown lack of concern for the views of other countries.

Criminal litigation in cases where an individual or a group has assaulted someone based on their orientation. I don't think much about the homophobia can be done but actions in which are motivated by homophobia can. Such as punishing hate crimes.

Why, planning on a trip to Russia soon? Better yet what's with the homophobi still in this country?

It doesn't require a " solution" Russia has made its own laws( based on how outrageous the behavior of gays in the West has been) and its not your place to " fix" them.

There can be no solution you cannot influence people's opinions I know what is happening is wrong but it cannot be fixed quickly or fully as I said its a matter of opinion
