Navy Career Question?

I'm still in high school, but I want to plan ahead of approaching my goal. So anyways I want to get into the Naval Academy since it's a college and completely focuses on what I want to do as a job. However after I graduate I want to become a naval pilot, but in order to do that I need to go to flight school. I saw somewhere that before you go to the Naval Academy you sign a contract that you'll join the military after graduation. In my mind that means a week later I will begin the Navy. So I want to know is when do I go to flight school? Do I end talking to a Navy recruiter after graduation and then tell him I want to be a naval aviator and he will hold off on Navy and put me in flight school? Also any other important tips I should remember.

Are you aware that you need a recommendation from a your congressman to be considered for the Naval Academy? You will need someone from your school to help set that up. Okay, so let's suppose you get into the Academy. That's four years of higher education with a contract to serve at least four years of active duty as a commissioned officer. Around the end of the second year at the Academy, you will have a chance express your interest in Naval Aviation. If you qualify physically and prove you have an aptitude for flying, you will be sent to flight school immediately upon graduation and getting your commission.

I didn't attend the Academy, but took the NROTC route. There is absolutely no difference upon graduation and getting the commission.

I admire your wanting to become a Naval Aviator but you need to look at the fact that getting into the academy is going to be as hard as graduating. You will need to think of having a Plan B in case you don't get accepted. If you do get accepted then you will get a chance to put in your wish list (Surface Warfare, Subs, Aviation, Seals, etc.) at the end of your junior year. You will also sign your contract committing you to service in the Navy or Marines for a minimum of 5 years as well. Longer if you choose Nuclear Power or Aviation. Once you graduate you will be commissioned into either the Navy or Marines and be sent off to flight school if you are selected for that.
