When my female dog was spayed they did a transplant of the ovary?

My female dog was spayed yesterday using a method where the ovary is transplanted (I think they attach it to the stomach). It's supposed to reduce the chances of weight gain and was recomended by my vet as my dog is a Labrador and a highly skilled scavanger so we have to work hard to keep her weight down as it is. I can't recall the name of this type of procedure - if anyone can remind me before I see the vet again that'd be great.

I was wondering if anyone else had had this type of procedure and whether or not they found it as effective at weight management as it's supposed to be.

Many thanks.

Update:

For those interested it's called an ATOPA spay and is normally currently only used on working dogs (I live in the English countryside where there are many working dogs). ovariohysterectomy is where they remove uterus and ovaries and a ovariectomy is where they just remove the ovaries (now common in the UK and thought to be better for long term health). Poppy has had a ovariectomy but one of the ovaries is transplanted back on to the stomach wall. This is done because studies have shown that there is less chance of a change in thyroid function and that the oestradiol level remains the same as before which controls appitite. Dogs that have the ATOPA spay also do not see a decrease in energy levels which often happens in a normal spay. So basically it's heathier. It's more expensive to have done (but worth it) it is not taught in basic vet schools and is only practiced by those vets that have gone on to do much more advanced sugical training.

Poppy is currently a healt

Update 2:

Poppy is currently a healtly weight has a controlled diet and 2-3 hours off lead walking a day. She is prone to easy weight gain and offered this alternative it seemed a sensible choice and fairer to the dog.

I have never heard of a procedure such as this. If she is spayed why would they take an organ and transplant it somewhere else in the body? Doesn't make sense.

Weight is not controlled by the ovary but by managing the amount of type of food your dog eats and the amount.

Please let us know the name of the procedure - you have peeked my interest.

Well medical science is always moving on but this one is new to me! I've tried to find more on Google about this, without success so I'm afraid you'll have to wait to see your vet and ask him all the questions you clearly have about this procedure.

All mine, and there have been many over the years, have had a full Ovariohysterectomy. Everything out. Any who tended to put on weight, were controlled by me.

Spaying removes everything, uterus and ovaries.
