What does most energy go towards in an average American home?

The question is: Most home energy use goes toward: ________?

The possible answers are:

A. heating and cooking

B. hot water and appliances

C. washing clothes and cooking

D. heating and hot water

I tried looking it up online but all I kept getting was "ways to reduce your energy use" and all that. I feel like it could be any of these? I mean, I feel like it's C, but we use appliances to cook so B? And D would be important too gahhhh.

Thanks ahead of time.

Yeah, that's a tough one, because as you say, all the options seem like reasonable choices. I would probably go with answer D.

One doesn't really cook or use appliances *all* the time, so that 'gets rid of' answer options A, B, and C.

My largest bills in my apartment are indeed for heating and water. The appliances don't use that much electricity, nor do I wash clothes every day or something (lol) (I do wash my my clothes though! lol), so that's not a huge energy cost.
