People now hate mainstream and love everything from the 90s. What aspects of the mainstream did some people hate in the 90s? What did they consider real and fake hip hop then?

G-Funk and gangsta rap. Most people probably would have stuck to Common (Sense)'s ideals and disliked the growing popularity of secular and materialistic hip hop, as well as the more violent stuff. So N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, probably Biggie and Diddy later on, all that was a big no-no back then if you were hardcore.
