What did he bring to the table that hadn't been done before?

Say all other music was the same, just Nas never existed. It's 2014, and Illmatic drops. Same production, same rhymes.. would it have the same effect and be considered a classic?

People now hate mainstream and love everything from the 90s. What aspects of the mainstream did some people hate in the 90s? What did they consider real and fake hip hop then?

Every time a kid at my school finds out I rap they want to know my rap name for whatever reason.. I just been going by S. Mental for the past 2 years or so but I don't really know how I feel about it. I figure I'll just focus on the music now and come up with a better name later.. nothing wrong with that right?

BQ: B/S - You enjoy music more when you can relate

There is a kid who goes to my school named Nick Niedrich. He was recently in a moped accident. He's now in the hospital with severe brain damage in a medically induced coma. The doctors are doing all they can but the chance of him not making it through this is pretty high. It makes me sick to my stomach. I never got along with the kid. I thought he was a prick. But I didn't know him. I shouldn't have made judgments like that. I never got along with him just because I'm so judgmental. And if he doesn't make it through this I'll never have the chance to say sorry. I just can't believe this.. you hear of it happening, kids our age being put in situations like this, but you can never really understand until you witness it first hand. The worst part for me is that if he does go, there will be no finding peace with him. I'm mad at myself for being so judgmental towards a person I hardly even knew.. assuming he was a d*ck because of who he hung out with. Lesson learned, I guess.

Basically this dude me and a good friend of mine chill with now and then fvcked me over last week for 20 bucks and sold me Salvia instead of bud.. his snake @ss said he didn't know but I think he's full of it. Anyway he got the same lunch period as my friend, and my friend is saying how he's gonna be eating with him everyday.. Idk about you guys but if someone fvcked over a good friend of mine they'd have beef with me too... and sitting and eating lunch with them every day would be outta the question. I get not wanting to get in the middle of beefs between 2 people you're both cool with, but I'm one of the dude's best friends, the snake is just some dude who comes around now and then when he wants to ball or get high..

Anyway what you guys think? I live thinking the enemy of my friend is my enemy, so I kinda expected the same in return but I guess not.

I've actually grown to like it a bit more after re listening to it on a long car ride about a week ago. How about you?

I normally got some color on my shoes, then I normally wear khaki pants and shorts and ****, but as far as tees go I really only got black and white. I got like one red shirt but idk if I should try to get some more color in there.

Being that's it's been around for about 40 years, do you think anything new can be done with it? People criticize some artists claiming that they aren't bringing anything new to the table, but can anything new be brought anymore? If so, what?

Some days when I'm feeling inspired I can sit down, a verse flows out in an hour or so, I don't have to really force anything, and I enjoy it. Other days when I'm writing just to practice or whatever, it feels like a chore. Sometimes I'll get 8 bars down and just stop. Does this happen with anyone else?
