Panic attack confusion, please help?

A little about myself, I am 23 years old, over weight, have three kids and I do have other medical problems like sponged kidneys and ovarian cysts.

Four years ago I went to see my family doctor about sever chest pain and hot flashes. The doctor made me one of those depression things and I guess I scored low on it. At the time she made me do it, I was having some family issues, financial issues, and I had just given birth to twins, so my stress was high. So the doctor diagnosed me with panic attacks and prescribed me Ativan. She told me to take them when ever I was having one. But the Ativan never worked. The only way for me to feel any relief during a panic attack is to sleep and more often then not, when I wake up, the pain is gone.

Three years later, more family problems and I went into deep depression. I saw a theripist and told him about my panic attacks. When I told him the symptoms he looked at me funny and said that it did not sound like panic attacks.

My symptoms are just simply chest pain and hot flashes. That is it. No freaking out, no worrying about anything. I could be having the time of my life and then chest pain suddenly comes and then the hot flashes start with no sweating.

The therapist sent me to get an EKG of my heart. The emergency doctor said that my heart was fine and left it at that.

I have gone to see my new family doctor about it and she set me to get an x-ray. After the x-ray I had not heard from her so when I called they said there was nothing wrong. They didn't even set up a second appointment.

To this day, I still do not know if I have panic attacks or if something is seriously wrong, or if it is all in my head. I have tried just "ignoring" the pain. Trying to act as if nothing was wrong but that kind of pain can be hard to ignore sometimes.

Since doctors have been no help, I was hoping there was someone out there who have experienced these symptoms and can clarify if I am having panic attacks or not. Does anyone know what I have been experiencing?

Not panic attacks. A panic attack means FEELING panic for no real reason. It's often accompanied by a racing heart, tunneled vision, and breaking out in a sweat.

What you are having sounds more to me like simply hot flashes, probably related to the polycystic ovaries.
