How do you feel about Ashley Wagner making the Olympic team?

I will root for all of the Americans regardless. But, I think it's bull and another example of how political and unfair figure skating can be. Yes, Mirai has been inconsistent in the season leading up to the Olympics, but she skated her way onto the Olympic team fair and square and Ashley didn't. Also, Ashley is unfortunately infamous for choking once she gets to the higher rungs of competition. Doesn't that make her just as much of a gamble as Mirai? And someone else also mentioned, if consistency and experience is so important, how did Polina Edmunds make the team? Not saying she didn't deserve it, but she has the least international experience of them all. I swear just having a Russian name gets you ahead.

No, Mirai didn't earn her spot fair and square. She skated ONE decent competition. But she was completely rubbish for the last four years. She hasn't done a single thing since Vancouver. Ashley has worked hard and won plenty of medals, and became a two-time National Champion and one of the most consistent skaters representing the US. Mirai, meanwhile, developed a reputation for not only bombing, but underrotating consistently and never fixing the problem, while coach-hopping and developing a reputation for a poor work ethic.

This season was much the same. Ashley skated well in her Grand Prixs and scored well, Mirai didn't. And then they came to Nationals, Ashley had boot problems, Mirai's under-rotations were overlooked by the tech panel, and suddenly they were the wrong way around. So the selection panel did the only intelligent thing and put Ashley on the team.

And Ashley responded by skating a very good short program in the team event - a program that I can pretty well guarantee Mirai wouldn't have done.

Just such a shame the selection panel wasn't as intelligent with the men's selection. Selecting Jeremy Abbott was only ever going to end one way. But I can only imagine the uproar if they'd passed Abbott over.

All in all, I'm pretty fcking tired of the Mirai fans whining and btching about it. Look what happened at Four Continents - that's exactly WHY she shouldn't have gone to the Olympics. If Mirai wanted to get on the team, she should have skated better for a longer period of time. She's not stupid. The skaters were all told what would count and that Nationals alone would not determine the team.

I think Ashley deserved it better. Even though she fell, she skated her program with more energy compared to Mirai, plus Mirai's program had a lot of gaps in it where she was still whereas Ashley's program is better choreographed. In any way, both of them are good skaters just that Ashley skated better than Mirai in this compeitition despite her falls

I think they both deserved it and they both had equal chances of messing up at the Olympics. So therefore, Mirai, being in 3rd place, should have gone. I think they picked Ashley because of her appearance and personality. However, I think she had a great skate today and I hope she does well in her individual.

If you read more about the story, you'll find she has some spokesperson contracts with NBC and others, who already had their vision of her Olympic story in the can read to go -- so she 'had' to be on the team. It's all politics and money. Several insiders stated she could have come in 10th and they would have given her a spot. Look it up for yourself if you don't believe me.
