Found a security guard training FAQ's on the web. It seems to have all the questions and answers people ask about when getting a guard card. Question number 14 says:

"What if I have a felony or misdemeanor conviction?

Crimes of violence and felonies automatically disqualify you from applying to be a security guard in the State of California. For all others, the State considers the circumstances surrounding your conviction and evidence of rehabilitation. Just fill out the BSIS application completely and truthfully."

I am not sure where you live, but where I live in California (One of the biggest states against gun rights), you will have to wait 10 days for each and every firearm you will ever purchase. And each and every time they will do a background check. You could purchase a gun every month from the same shop all the way until you die when you are 100, and they will still make you wait for 10 days. it is thought of as a cool down wait, just in case if plan on shooting someone that you might rethink things by them.. Which is pretty stupid, but whatever. On and here in Cali, you can only purchase one gun a month. My dad is a Peace Officer (works at the Juvenile hall) and if he wanted to he could get a concealed carry permit (which he is getting ready to do) but even so, he Still has to go through background checks when he purchases a new gun. Even a full fledged police officer has to go through the same background check. Even if You already own a gun and want to give it to your brother as a gift, you have to go to the gun shop to do paper work and they will hold the gun for 10 days to do a background check on your brother. So at least here in California, no matter what, you have to wait a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of like 30 days, and if you don't pick it up you have to start over. I will also be Enlisting into the Marine Corps, and I will still have to go through background checks, even though you can't have felonies or anything like that to join in the first place. Very Stupid I know. And it will be getting worse before long. Also, the gun shops hate these laws as well - it is all the government

If you look at the people who get hired as guards , the standards aren't very high. I see people who couldn't put together a one piece jig saw puzzle.
