How to make A LOT of fake blood?

Question

I need about 3-4 gallons of it.

I'm making a book trailer for Carrie by Stephen King and there's a lot of blood in the story. If you've read it or seen any of the movies, you would get it. I'm doing the scene when she gets blood dumped on her and the scene when Carrie gets her period in the shower.
I have a small bottle of red food coloring, but I don't know if it's enough. I also don't know what to mix it with.
I was thinking about buying a lot of corn syrup or using liquid soap, but I need about 3-5 gallons of it so it would be kind of expensive. Also, corn syrup would be really annoying for anyone to deal with.

Any suggestions on how to make that much fake blood that won't damage skin or hair?
I'm not sure what category this question falls under.

This assignment is due in a little less than a month, so I really want to start by this weekend. I also have to edit too, which takes a long time.

they have it at party or halloween stores…. but if you want to make it from scratch use a liquid substance, not water because its too thin, maybe milk? and mix it with red food coloring… if that looks too red then mix in some green

If you want realistic fake blood, just mixing water and food coloring won't get you what you need. A few easy additions to the blood will give you blood with a realistic color that drips convincingly.
