Dane with a sprained ankle?

We have pain meds from vet and a check up for a week. She just had a scooby doo moment and injured her front ankle. can any one tell me how to wrap it or tell me of a sight to get the info. I for got to ask the vet I work for as a groomer, AND we are closed now because of a huge snow storm. she is resting and has ice on it now. I just want to wrap it when she does get up and about.

Just wrap it in a ace bandage but be careful not to cut off circulation. Don't ice it for more then 15 minutes at a time with a hour inbetween icings. Keep her well rested for 2-4 days don't excite her or roughouse. Shorter walks...bring her food and water to her so she can stay off the paw as much as possible...good luck!

The wonderful Great Dane there's a huge one in the UK where I'm from it has chewed its way through 16 sofas but his owner adores him he now knows better as he stretches out on one, he's the biggest Great Dane in the UK he's gorgeous.

Your poor dog must rest up and good advice was just given about a gently wrapped bandage held in place with a pin or to be more safe than sorry tear the end strip in two and make a bow with the bandage.

Well I'm just a teenager ((14)) So I'm not positive on what to do. But i don't think you really can give them OUR med's, honestly i don't know? Maybe make sure he takes it very easy (as you would with our sprangs) And go see a vet in the morning. Ask them what to do for pain medications for him or what you can give. I would say wrap his ankle & give him ice, but you look like you already did ( : Hope he's okay! and good luck with him tonight/tomorrow.

Wrap it like an ACE bandage but do not wrap it so tightly that her ankle becomes numb or that your toes turn blue. I would also advise to:

1- Whenever possible, keep her ankle raised above heart level on a stack of pillows or other type of support.

2- Take over-the-counter drugs, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, to relieve pain and swelling.

3- Don't let her exercise that can cause pain.

These tips helped me when I have sprained my ankle so I hope it helps her too!

Do not under ANY circumstances bandage the leg. I've seen too many poorly placed bandages by owners. More than once I've seen legs die, and subsequently the dog be euthanized because an owner placed a bandage they shouldn't.

just wrap it wit a ace bandage. that's what e did when my got hit by a car. the spca found him and we went to get him. they said wrap it up but be careful not to cut circulation off. also also wait a few hour. my other dog yorkiepoo hurt his front leg and was limping around making us carry him everywhere, when he thought we weren't looking starting walking on it fine. so e was faking to get attention. he did the wining and making you fell bad but he was only faking the leg injury.
