Why is Sochi such a mess?

Question

All the hoopla about the Olympics is great, but how come the media isn't reporting on the stuff at Sochi that isn't so hotsy-totsty: dirty water, hotels rooms not ready, ceilings falling down, manholes not covered, stray dogs and cats roaming the city and being killed on sight?  And then there's all the stuff about the blatant persecution of homosexuals.  How come we only get part of the Sochi story?

When the IOC awarded the Games to Sochi there were no facilities.
They have been trying to build everything and did not finish in time.
This happens, when Athens had the Games they were still pouring concrete after the events started.
In fact they were so far behind schedule that the IOC threatened to move the Olympics back to Sydney.

Agree with mstees, happens at all the games. You may not follow the commonwealth games in Delhi, there was a huge uproar about the facilities and when it came down to it the games went off really well.
Living in London, I can tell you first hand that things were a mess here during the 2012 Summer games. Nobody was talking about it because the sport came first. That's what people around the world are tuning in for.

You're watching the sports, not behind the scenes. Yes there's been some problems...big deal, there's problems at all Olympics. You don't think the USA has ever had problems at their Olympics? I know I've seen the same pictures over & over, and as far as shooting the stray dogs, what difference is it to shoot them or euthanize them? Do you know how many dogs are put down every year in the USA? Will boggle your mind
