Wa Alaikum Alsalam Wa Rahmet Allah Wabarakatuh sister Safiya

    وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته

I personally recommend what Scholars recommended me and others:

    1- Quran

    2- Quran Tafseer

2.1 - Ibn Kathir [for summary] -- Authentication required

2.2 - Al Tabari [Detailed greatest Tafseer] -- Authentication required

2.3 - Kitaab Al Tawheed - for Mohamed bin Abd Al Wahab [Aqeedah & Quran]

3 - Hadith of Bukhari and Muslim to start with

4 - Majmoo Al Fatawa for Ibn Taymiyah (rahimahuAllah)

5 - Madarej Al Salikeen for Ibn Al Qayem (rahimahuAllah)

The above books are great, and it's what I started with and most scholars used and started with. I believe they are essential. The Fatawa book is pretty big and comes in series. But it's good to learn from how Fiqh is extracted. As for Madarej Al Salikeen -- One of my ultimate favorite books, I can't describe it's importance for a Muslim in their path to Allah (ﷻ).

May Allah (ﷻ) benefit us. And make our knowledge a witness for us, and not against us. May Allah (ﷻ) make your path easy inshAllah.

    ____

@Choco - Yes, they are the Fundamentals of Religion.

If a Muslim has his Fundamentals right. By Allah's will, Nothing can shake the ground from underneath them with knowledge and Taqwa and Allah's protection.

The Tawheed book is short. But very Important.

The Tafseer books are long, but also important.

The most Important of course is Quran and Sahih Hadith books.

As for Fatwa Book of Ibn Taymiyah, it's a Gem to have in every home.

And the Most Enjooooyable book for a Muslim to be their "companion" in their path to Allah (ﷻ) Is Madarej Al Salikeen by Ibn Al Qayem (rahimahuAllah).

There are other books... But I am mentioning the most important.

@Majeed - Also a great book in the Seerah of Prophet (ﷺ). The Sealed Nectar [Al Raheeq Al Makhtoom]. Also, another great Seerah book, by Ibn Al Qayem "Zad Al Mi'aad". Jazakum Allah Khairan

This is so funny, because I sent you an email asking you this exact question. I am reading a book called female Da'yat ( callers to Islam/worship ) and in it, it lists the best books and how to be a female Da'yah. The book is in Arabic though. As far as English-Arabic books, here is a list:-

Books on Aqeedah ( Core Islamic Creed )

    - Thalaathatul Usool ( the three fundamental principles. )

    - Kashf ush shubuhaat ( the removal of the doubts )

    - Kitaab Al Tawheed By Abdul Wahaab ( the book of tawheed )

    - Sharh al aqeedah at tahawiyyah ( Commentary on the creed of Al-Tahawi )

    Books on Hadith

    - Fath Ul Bari ( Grant of the Creator )

    - Subl Al Salam ( The Ways of Peace )

    - al arbaeen nawawi ( 40 hadith of Imam Nawawii )

    - Saheeh Bukhari

    - Saheeh Muslim

Books on Fiqh ( Jurisprudence and its principles )

    - zad al mustaqni

    Books on Tafsir

    - Tafsir of the holy Quran by Ibn Kathir

    Books on Seerah

    - Zad al miaad ( provisions of the hereafter )

    - Ar Raheed al Makhtoom ( The sealed nectar )

All these books have been translated from Arabic to English and can be found online in PDF format, you can also buy the books. I did some research. :P

    Wa'alaykumasalaam warahamatullahi wabrakatu,

It's best to read the books that are recommended by our great scholars.

"The books, which a student of knowledge, who is a beginner, should start reading with [if he can read and write well] are:

Fath ul-Majeed Sharh Kitaab ut-Tawheed , which is a mighty book,

Aqeedat ul-Waasitiyyah by Shaykh ul-Islaam ibn Taymiyyah,

al-Qawl ul-Mufeed Fee Adillatit Tawheed by our brother Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhaab al-Wasaabee,

    Bulugh al-Maraam

    Riyaadh us-Saaliheen

When you have read these books, you yourself will crave for more. If you could, start with the memorization of the Qur’aan, and this more good and desirable.

As for the issue, regarding the ‘Arabic language, for our foreign brothers, then it is very important. If there is a foreign person who does not speak the ‘Arabic language well, then a person may come to him in his Islaamic appearance and then he begins to explain the Qur’aan to him other than how it ought to be, as happened with the Mu’tazilah.

Taken From Tuhfatul Mujeeb ‘Alaa Asilatil-Hadhir wal-Ghareeb, p.156, Dar al-Aathar.

Satanic Verses is a good islamic book , full of true facts from Allah SAW and only now being proved correct by best inventions in new technology , or if thats not your cup of tea then try Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves by Antoine Galland again another true story only now being proved correct by recent acts of violence and looting in Aleppo

Read the best book on Seerah of Prophet Mohammad SAW. The title is

"AR-RAHEEQ AL MAKHTOOM'. This book was prized as Best book of the year and was awarded my Arab League. I have this book and have read it many many times to refresh my memory.
