How do I keep a shotgun magazine tube from squeaking?
The spring squeaks in the magazine tube when I insert shells. What do I use to lubricate the spring to make it quiet?
This is for a Benelli Nova.

If the magazine spring is squeaking, it has to be rubbing against the walls of the magazine tube. You may have introduced some moisture into it with some damp ammunition which map have resulted in a rust deposit. Take the magazine down, uses your cleaning rod to wipe the tube with some nitro solvent, and let it stand for about five minutes to allow the solvent to work then use a bore brush to loosen up any residue, then use a patch to clean out the residue, if possible you should remove the magazine tube from the action so you don't foul the action with any of the loosened residue. Then use a clean patch to lightly oil the tube. Check the spring to ensure there is no build up of anything on it. Then reassemble the gun, and see if the spring still squeaks. Hopefully a thorough cleaning will solve the problem.

Keep in mind that any lube that is a liquid at room temperature is going to pick up dirt, dust, etc - you wont need to clean the mag and spring every time - but at least once a year.
Remington makes a spray on dry lube - comes in a can - has the little red extension hose that fits in the top. Just one quick spray in the top where the hole is for the attachment screw, and one in from the bottom should do it. Nothing will happen if you over do it - but - why waste it? A little of that stuff goes a long way. I use this stuff for extremely wet hunts - like rainy days, match shooting in the rain, or when around salt water and it is great...... especially on very hot days or hot barrels. However if things get really cold (I live in Alaska) like beyond -20F it can flake off an not work well...... doubtful you will have THAT issue like do.

Squeaky, dry and CLEAN are how I keep our 870s and 500s at work. If they squeak, our officers can get over it.
If you absolutely MUST (on an 870 or 500. I've not worked on the Benelli), you can remove the spring and follower, clean the poo out of the tube and then wind the spring through a shop rag with a few drops of CLP or Rem Oil on it. DO NOT OVERDO IT WITH THE LOOB! Oil attracts dirt and crap which will gum up even worse!
I suggest you just deal with the noise.

( NO...Capt M...dry graphite lube is NOT recommended by Locksmiths or Gunsmiths. ) I've had numerous pumps and one semi....they all squeaked to some degree. Get used to it or sell the gun. Like Squiggy said...you CAN lube it...but that creates it's own set of problems.
