Why did my entire tattoo scab over HORRIBLY?
This is my first tattoo. I got it like 6 days ago and It is quite large. Anyway about two days after I got it, it developed THICK scabs over the entire tattoos. When I say thick I mean thick. It's embarrassing to show people cause they tell me I'm not taking care of it correctly or I need to put more lotion etc but the thing is I am doing exactly what the artist told me to do! I don't understand why it scabbed over so horribly! Why did it do this and when will it go away?

My tattoo did that as well. Then a friend who is basically covered in ink suggested Vitamin A&D ointment. It worked like a charm! It also numbs your skin a little so you don't feel it working! :-)

Lotion is not what you use on a new tattoo, you need specific ointment fortified with vitamins and moisturizer so your skin will not dry out.
Your tattoo is scabbing over and to a certain extent this is normal. This happened to me with my tattoos as well, the scabs fall off and the tattoo is fine underneath.
However, deep scabs that pull too much of the ink out of your skin can leave faded spots, if you don't start using the correct ointment it may not heal properly.
Do not use lotion, especially lotion with aloe, get something specifically for tattoos, tattoo artists do not like fixing other people's mistakes I can tell you that. There is a chance the artist who did your tattoo may have been pressing too hard also but I can't be sure.
