Outboard boat motor won't trim / tilt. Please help!?
I have a 1991 Astro bass boat with a Mercury Blackmax 150 outboard. All was fine in 2012. I moved it from Texas to Arizona and boat has sat for almost 2 years. I had planned to go out today but the motor will not trim or tilt. Batteries are fully charged. When I use the trim switch (on motor, on throttle lever, and switch on bow) I hear the solenoid click but motor is not engaging. I have used the manual pressure release and moved the motor up and down by hand. Cyclinders are not leaking, no air in the lines, all fuses appear good... What else can I do to troubleshoot this issue? I understand combustion engines on cars, I am puzzled by this boat motor. Please be detailed in your answers. Thanks in advance for all helpful answers.

If the trim motor doesn't run in either direction, you may have a poor ground to the trim motor, or the motor is faulty. You will need a multimeter to test:
1. First, test for continuity from the trim motor to the engine block (the black wire from the trim motor.)
2. If you have a good ground, next test for power to the motor. Make sure you have current from the solenoids to the motor, by testing for current on the "out" side of each solenoid as you activate the trim switch. ( green wire is down, blue wire is up)
3. If you have current to both green and blue wires, your motor is probably faulty. You can confirm this by disconnecting the trim motor wiring harness and wiring the motor directly to a battery with jumper wires.
You will need the serial number from your outboard when ordering trim components, as this model year used both design 1 and design 2 trim systems.
