Will overdue duck eggs hatch?
A month ago I received 22 fertile duck eggs purchased from ebay (12 Swedish and 10 Welsh Harlequins). I immediately placed them in an incubator with temperature 99.5 degrees and humidity 60%. I used an automatic egg turner until day 25. I had 3 hatch as scheduled on day 28. 1 hatched on day 29. I helped 2 hatch today (day 30) and they are all doing fine.
6 ducklings out of 22 fertile eggs seems like a very low hatch rate.
I also raise chickens, hens only. I know you can float test infertile eggs to check for freshness. Bad eggs will float, fresh eggs will sink. I have read online you can test overdue duck eggs by a float test and the results are reversed, viable fertile eggs float and bad, dead, or dud eggs sink. I candled all the unhatched eggs and some are dark some are clear. Some clear eggs floated and some clear eggs sank. Also some dark / full looking eggs floated and others sank.
What are the odds some of the remaing eggs may still hatch? I am very doubtful, but I will incubate them for a few more days to see what happens.
3 AnswersBirds7 years agoBreeding Ducks?
I recently added three adult ducks to my farm (a male Welsh Harlequin, and a male/female pair of Blue Swedish). I know males must mate the female to produce fertilized eggs. I have also read the female will lay one egg per day for 7-12 days then set on the eggs after all are laid. My question is "Does the male have to fertilize EACH egg (mating daily), or does ONE act of intercourse fertilize the whole batch of eggs?"
1 AnswerOther - Pets7 years agoOutboard boat motor won't trim / tilt.?
I have a 1991 Astro bass boat with a Mercury Blackmax 150 outboard. All was fine in 2012. I moved it from Texas to Arizona and boat has sat for almost 2 years. I had planned to go out today but the motor will not trim or tilt. Batteries are fully charged. When I use the trim switch (on motor, on throttle lever, and switch on bow) I hear the solenoid click but motor is not engaging. I have used the manual pressure release and moved the motor up and down by hand. Cyclinders are not leaking, no air in the lines, all fuses appear good... What else can I do to troubleshoot this issue? I understand combustion engines on cars, I am puzzled by this boat motor. Please be detailed in your answers. Thanks in advance for all helpful answers.

2 AnswersBoats & Boating7 years agoPuppy sudden blindness?
HELP. I have a 9 month old American Bulldog puppy. Yesterday he was fine (running, jumping, etc). Today he is totally blind. We have 4 acres in Southern Arizona. Wondering if maybe it is temporary from a bug bite (no signs of swelling, marks, redness, or soreness) or something he may have eaten. I have read about medical reasons (glaucoma, SARDS, etc). I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar.
2 AnswersDogs8 years agoWhat is the best transmission for a modified SBC 350?
I have a 1978 Camaro and I need to replace the transmission. I am wondering what is the best transmission: TH350, TH400, or 700R4. The Camaro is my daily driver, but I also enjoy the occasional burnout and drag race between stoplights. The engine is a 350 cubic inch V-8, Flowtech Headers with cherry bomb glass packs bolted directly to headers (no catalytic converters), a Holley 650 cfm carb, and Edelbrock Performer intake, Comp Cam with .470 lift, and Accel plugs and wires.

Where is the oil pressure SWITCH (not sender) on a 1985 Fiero V-6? My Fiero keeps blowing the 10A fuel pump fuse and my research has shown that the oil pressure switch on these cars acts as a backup for the the fuel pump relay. I have already replaced the fuel pump and filter. Additionally I have searched for any loose electrical ground / frayed wiring. Pretty sure it is the oil pressure switch which is a $5-10 part.

2 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoWho has a SBC vacuum diagram?
I have a 78 Camaro. 350 V8 SBC, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley 650 cfm carb, Flowtech headers by Holley, Cherry bomb glass pack dual exhaust directly bolted onto header collectors, and Comp cam with .470 lift.
The brakes (disc front and drum rear), rotors, and master cylinder / brake booster were recently replaced by a local shop. The car has a HARD break pedal with minimal stopping power which I suspect is due to vacuum lines improperly routed connected. Currently I have 1 vacuum line to the distributor. The other vacuum line is from brake booster to a T fitting, T fitting to PVC valve on valve cover and other hose to carb. What is the correct routing of vacuum lines OR other contributing factors to hard brake pedal and soft stopping power?

2 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoWhy won't car start with new camshaft?
I recently installed a new camshaft, lifters, and timing chain on my 78 Camaro. I followed a Chilton guide step by step for the whole process. Piston #1 at top dead center (turned crank until both lifters, intake and exhaust, on #1 cylinder were down / recessed) and Camshaft gear timing mark at six o'clock position / crank gear timing mark at 12 o'clock position. Monday night I finished re-assembling the engine but could not get it to start. The motor turns over and backfires. I tried turning the distributor (advancing timing) to no avail, only backfiring. What do I need to do?
The car is a 78 Camaro, 5.7L V8 SBC, Holley 650 cfm carb, Headers, edelbrock intake, etc. The newly installed cam is COMP with .470 lift.

7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoQuestion about valve lifters and camshaft break in.?
I am replacing the Camshaft, lifters, and timing chain on a SBC 350. The motor is still in the car and I have the valve covers and manifold removed (and other components). The camshaft break-in procedure recommends removing the inner valve springs and running engine at 2000-2500 rpm for 20-30 minutes.
MY QUESTION: I have the valve spring compressor tool to remove the springs. HOW do I prevent the valve from falling into the cylinder when I remove the spring? Can I conduct the break in without removing the inner valve springs?
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoQuestion about timing gear marks on SBC 350?
I have a 78 Camaro. Holley 650 cfm carb, Edelbrock intake, Flowtech long headers, Cherry Bomb Glass pack dual exhaust directly bolted on the header collectors, Accel plugs and wires. Car was running good, but engine was flat due to flat lobe on camshaft. I am replacing the camshaft, lifters, timing chain and gears. During disassembly I noticed the timing marks were different than as depicted in my Chilton guide. The Chilton guide shows the Cam gear with the mark on the bottom (6:00 position) of the gear and the Crank gear with it's mark on top (12:00 position) of the gear. When I was taking the motor apart, I noticed the timing marks were both aligned at the 12:00 position. (Cam gear mark at top and Crank gear mark at the top).
MY QUESTION, Should I put the car back together the same way it was running before OR should I put it back together the correct Chilton way? Just wanting to make sure the valves and lifters will be in synch if I change it to the Chilton directions.
All answers are greatly appreciated. Please list your experience with your answer.
