how to break out of the friend zone?

Im in college and I met this girl two weeks ago at a super bowl party. We connected instantly and hung out one on one afterward. A few days later we hung out again and ended up making out for a good 20 minutes straight. She wanted to take it farther than making out but i stopped her and said that I like her and would rather take it slow and she agreed with me. We both got really busy and didnt see each other again for almost a week (this monday). I told her I wanted to take her out to dinner on Valentine's Day and she said no and proceeded to explain herself.

I've been replaying this over and over in my head so I dont remember her exact words but she made these basic points.

-had a 5 year relationship end out of the blue over text in summer 2012 and thats still got her a bit scarred.

-doesnt want to force any sort of relationship because she feels that if two people are meant to be together it will happen

-I asked her if that meant that something was possible in the future and she said its not impossible but I shouldn't have my hopes up too high.

-Said that im by far the coolest guy she's met since transferring here in the fall and said she really wants us to be friends, then clarified she legitimately wants to be friends and isnt just saying that to get me off her back.

I've never been in a situation like this before so I really don't know what to do. She's the first girl i've had actual feelings for since I got cheated on last spring so i havent been able to get over her yet.

I'm studying computer science so there's not exactly any girls in my classes and i work on the weekends so i cant go to parties. I've got nowhere else to meet other girls and it feels shitty not having any potential girls. So until someone new comes along I want to be doing the best I can to get unfriendzoned. I understand its unlikely but I need something to be optimistic about until someone new comes along.
