How can you tell when you are ready to jump with a horse?

So, I know someone is gonna say to ask a trainer. I have heard that it's good if you can ride the canter without stirrups, but for how long? I definitely can ride the canter without stirrups, but I do get fatigued. Anyway, I am getting back into riding and jumped on my first day back. I just want to make sure I am not jumping above my level. Of course, it would have been nice to do some poles and "X's" first, but I think I am at the right level. I just want to take safety precautions.

I can't even canter without stirrups yet or even get a good enough canter, as I have been rather lazy with my riding and slacked a bit on my schooling, I don't know how long for as tbh never heard of that before lol. So I guess you are more prepared and ready then I am. I hope to jump this year but I think I should consider waiting longer to jump now lol :)

If you feel you are ready, safe and trust the horse then go for it.

As for jumping above your level, just start of small and slowly get higher and higher don't start jumping certain heights until you feel safe and fully prepared.

Hope this helped a little, I haven't given you great advice but hey, I attempted answering your question :)
