Check Engine Light 2010 Chevy Cobalt 2.2 4 cyl.?
Car has low miles, only 19600 miles on it. Light came on when car was used in below zero weather. Auto Zone did scanner check and codes were P0300 and P1174. One day the light went off, the next it came back. Light is steady, not blinking.. I filled it up with better gas today, 89 vrs 87 octane regular. All gas has up to 10% ethanol in it around here if that matters. Drove 25 miles, light is still on. Do I have to reset light (by disconnecting the battery?) or will it reset itself if fuel was the problem. If fuel is not the problem, what is, did not expect problem with car with such low miles. Please Help. Bought this car new and never had any problem. Car seems to start and run ok, even in really cold weather. .

You'll need to get with the dealer due to a recall from GM for your vehicle with the code P1174. The recall is to replace all injectors and reprogram the PCM (Engine computer) at no charge to you. The P0300 is a general misfire causing by the affected fuel injectors. HTH

Hi victorschool1,
We certainly understand your concerns, and apologize that you've experience the check engine light on your Cobalt. You are still within the original vehicle Powertrain warranty. Have you considered taking your vehicle into the dealership for a diagnosis? If you'd like for us to reach out to your local GM/Chevy dealership about this issue, please feel free to message us your full contact information, VIN, and preferred dealership,
Thank you,
Amber N.

Malfunction light is on and there is a misfire and could be a result of wiring problems at the fuel injector.
I replaced several harnesses on 2010 Cobalts with these two codes and it fixed the problem.

This sounds like a vacuum leak, not a fuel problem. Stop using 89 octane. That's not "better" gas. It just has more octane which just slows down the flame spread. There's no more energy in 89 than 87.

i used to own a chevy caviler (predicessor to the cobalt) and it always had the check engine on. i took it to a mechanic to check it out and he said that the computers alot of the time just mess up. i would still have it taken in to have it checked out to rule out any issues

Clean your fuel injectors, that will help burn off some hydrocarbons that are making the PO171 code appear burning to lean on fuel. Reduce emmisions and hydrocarbon leverls by doing a fuel system cleaning service. $49.99 at a shop $15.99 do it yourself. Works everytime and will help you pass smog tests if you need it

If you are unable to determin which cylinder is misfiring, you have to options ether send it too a shop to it checked or start with a tune up and see if that helps, yes you will have to clear the codes unless you wait long enough after a repair till the car sees x amount of good trips and the light goes out
