flash drives in a wii to watch movies question?
If I put a couple AVI files or MP4 files on a flash drive, can I plug the flash drive into the wii and watch the videos through the wii?

I don't think you can watch videos on the original WII.

Official Answer: NO... There's no support for USB storage devices for what you're considering on doing.
Unofficial Answer: YES... but you have to softmod your Wii (running Wii Menu 4.3. You have to install IOS 56 manually on Wii Menu 4.2 or lower) & use a homebrew media player (like WiiMC) to do so.
WARNING: VOIDS WARRANTY! -- Softmodding your Wii is a violation of Nintendo's Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) & will void any warranties you may have on your Wii... additionally, it will give Nintendo the right to refuse any repair requests on that system as well. If you're not comfortable with that, the DO NOT PROCEED!
