does the mailman have a right to demand me to clean up my dogs poop so he can walk across MY yard?

My mailman walks across my lawn each day and one day unexpectedly left my mail on my step (not in my box)with a note about how he keeps stepping in dog doo and I need to clean my yard. I called my local office about it and was told he needs to walk around it, not bother me about it. About a week later I made a flag on a stick and stuck it in a dog doo so he would see it. Today he stops me and takes me to a spot on my lawn where he travels "it's the shortest way" and points out to me a dog defecation on top of 12 inches of snow. He wants me to scoop it up so he won't walk in it, but he is walking through the snow with no problems. He also walks through my plants in front of my porch before he allegedly walks in the doo. No problems there. I have no plans on cleaning my yard or redirecting my dog since I do not believe he should be on my lawn in the first place and I may put up a fence.

Update:

He walks up a cement path to my porch, puts my mail in my box, then instead of using the path to leave he walks off the side of the porch, over my plants and across my yard.

It's your yard you can do what ever you want with it your dogs poop fertilizes the ground. It doesn't matter If "it's the shortest way" it's YOUR yard and it's unprofessional to walk all over your plants and grass then get mad because he stepped in poo.

Flagging the poo that was yes a little to much but if he can't stand stepping in poo then he needs to use the drive way or path way leading to your mail box also if he's going to walk through your yard than it should be his responsibility to look were he's stepping he's not blind. My mail lady has no problem with our two dogs and she respects our yard she takes the walk way to our mail box and doesn't walk through our plants.

gosh people these days need to learn respect for other people and their property.

Yes, your mailman certainly has that right. There's no way s/he should be asked to wade through poop to deliver your mail. Can you imagine being him or her and getting back in your truck to discover you've stepped in poo and now get to smell it all day?

You should be cleaning up your dog's waste daily just for sanitary purposes. Or fence your back yard separate from your front yard and only let your dog out in the back. But if you'd rather just pick up your mail at the post office, get a box there.

If you have enough time and effort to stick a flag in a dog's poop, you should be able to clean that ish up, hun.

Oh wait a min, is dog pooppy (sp?) some kind of decoration for your yard? Well, make sure you dress it up nice or make some kind of container for it since they're more like a grenade for most people. Try stepping on one and BAM, you'll smell like it for the whole day.

This might be personal, but I sure as hell don't want my mailman covered in dog poo when he comes over to MY yard. It sucks enough to get the bills but another thing altogether to have it come with the ungodly smell, so yeah, I would hope you clean it up soon. Just sayin.

Although he can't make you clean up your yard it would be nice as their is no need to have tension between you and the mailman. Maybe ask him to not walk through your plants? You should be cleaning up your dog poop, although you don't HAVE to its not an attractive lawn decoration. The last thing you want is your important bills not showing up and all sorts of problems happening with the mail man. You are both wrong in this situation, him for being rude about it and you being rude back.

I think you are a lazy and dirty dog owner and I agree totally with your postman.

The fact you took the time to stick a flag in the poop and not bother to remove the poop reflects on your slovenly attitude towards hygiene.

I really have a job believing that someone could be so ignorant and wonder that "if this issue is true", what in heavens name the inside of your house is like. Nuff said!!!!

LOVELY! He has EVERY right to complain because in most areas it's a public health hazard to just leave your dogs poop all over your yard or other people's yards. How filthy are you that that's how you live? NASTY!

Go ahead and put up a fence and a locked gate. Then you will be denied mail delivery and will have to pick it up at the post office.

Sure glad someone like you doesn't live in my neighbourhood. Your house and yard must be SO disgusting!!!

edit: " your dogs poop fertilizes the ground." Seriously? No it does NOT. It's actually very dangerous to leave it laying about http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/09/dog-poop-...

    Yes

They have a right not to walk across a minefeild of dog crap and the city can also make you clean your yard since its not sanitary for any one to have that much dog crap laying around

Visitors could step into it and your dog could tread it into the house. Consequently you must pick up immediately after your dog defecates.

I suspect that if you are negligent about cleaning up your lawn, that you also have a dirty house.

You may want to cooperate if you don't want to have to start picking up your mail at the post office. Flagging a pile of poop instead of picking it up?

How totally disgusting that you leave it in the first place.

I too would be refusing to deliver your mail and the post office should take his views into consideration.

You took the trouble to place a flag in each but didn't pick it up... unbelievable !!!

    PICK IT UP
