Christians and atheists - a question on attempting to convert people.?

While I don't want to lump all Christians and all atheists into this question, it does apply to a large number of both types of people.

Why are you so concerned with other people's belief/non-belief?

Christians - surely you would lead a much happier life were you to only be concerned with the salvation of you and your family, rather than crusading to convert others and condemning others verbally for not agreeing. Freedom of religion goes both ways, and though atheism is a conclusion, not a religion, surely allowing people to live their lives in a way that is not harming you or your family would be a happier existence.

Atheists - does the same not apply? Would you not allow Christians etc. to carry on blissfully in their ignorance and stop concerning yourself with their beliefs. Separation of church and state needs to happen, yes, but why attack the individual Christian when you should be attacking the system?

I am humanist, by the way, but was raised Catholic. I have educated myself in both science and religion enough to make an educated decision on my own "faith".

Update:

@ωнαттυρ I apologise if you took that wrong, it was written for atheists with an atheists point of view in mind.

Update 2:

Atheist commenters - I do understand, and agree wholeheartedly, as to why you would be against the church being part of legislation etc. But surely the individual Christian is a victim of the brainwashing? Why attack them, when it is the State and the Church that you should be attacking?

Update 3:

@Jordan I am not a theist in any way. This is a genuine question from my humanist point of view ie. live and let live. I used the word "faith" in quotation marks because I was raised in a religious faith and made a decision not to continue.

Update 4:

@jiloth7 I did come out and say what I believe, I stated I am humanist - by that definition I am an atheist. However if you had read my question you would see that my beliefs actually have no bearing on the question I have asked.

we are all brothers and sisters so some concern for each others well being is alright. It is just how you share your convictions with those of the other party that makes us more human or less of a human. If we cannot share in a civilized way, then it is better not to be concerned with the other

    Your question is somewhat hilarious.

Your accusations against Christians are subtle.

Your support for atheism is clearly evident.

You did unintentionally or deliberately lump everyone together and classify them as clones without an honest consideration for their individuality. Stereotyping is the name of that game.

You should either come out boldly with what you believe or at least hide your intent better.

Why are you so concerned about what people believe or don't believe anyway?

Paul, Timothy, and other 1st century Christians didn't just keep their faith to themselves. Christians are under obligation to make disciples of people of all the nations. Mathew 28:19,20. Therefore, no real Christian will keep his faith to himself. You have free will you can choose what you believe and if you don't want to listen then don't, but don't tell people to stop doing what they have been commissioned by God to do!

    Mathew 24:14

  • hummmmm? Which limitation to address???

    God is love; not pride.

What is the difference between anarchy and freedom?

Please separate/discern between scripture and Bible. Should 'other Christians' have cleaned up the errors (Satan's additions to scripture) by now and currently? YES.

I will give you a hint; if asker was raised Catholic; she had a 'higher' starting point than I did.

How many times do we have to say this.

In the USA they have recently passed bills in certain states where homosexuals can legally be refused entry to establishments based on their sexual orientation. This is akin to Jim crow laws.

In the UK (where I believe you are from) they do not allow female ministers in various denominations which is exclusionary discrimination.

These, theists will argue, are acceptable legislations based on religious morality and were driven, enacted, and passed by theists themselves.

    Atheist, tend to disagree.

I, frankly, do not care what the religious believe or what they practice. Theists, do not afford me, or other people the same consideration.

    =

    >But surely the individual Christian is a victim of the brainwashing? Why attack them, when it is the State and the Church that you should be attacking?

Because they defend it, and do not like people that speak out against it. Hence I have more thumbs down than up - merely because I am an atheist wanting equality.

I cannot, cannot give you a better example of their way of thinking.

I would be happy to let people just continue in their ignorance. I have no interest in convincing religious people not to be religious. The problem is they try and stick religion into the government and make all of us have to follow laws based in their religion. If none of them did that, I would never have anything to say to anyone about the subject.

Going from religious idiot to normal person (aka atheist) is not "converting". It's called accepting reality.

The Christian disease causes great harm to its victims and everyone else. There is for example the Christian war against science education which is destroying America's future. And there is the never ending religious brainwashing. This is child abuse and it must not be tolerated.

Ever since the 9/11 religious atrocities I have had zero tolerance for the ridiculous god fairy fantasy that made those 3,000 deaths possible. Religion must be completely eradicated from this planet.

As a Christian, if feel like I'm suppose to spread the the Lord's teachings. I'm not trying to necessarily convert anyone, but I want everyone to know about Jesus. He saves lives. As Christians, we're suppose to love. I don't want the Atheists to keep rejecting God and end up in Hell. I want them to understand life is really great when you have the Lord by your side as a companion. One can actually move a mountain with a tiny mustard seed of faith. I love Atheists enough to want them to inherit God's Kingdom. Our time here on Earth is to learn how to love. We must learn how to love and help others. :-)

Err, excuse me? Blissfully in our ignorance?

Maybe you should stop being so condescending.

    >>Why are you so concerned with other people's belief/non-belief?<<

I am concerned because the religious fundies legislate their discriminating, racist, bigoted, & homophobic beliefs.

Plus, I have no desire to "convert" anyone. Let people believe whatever the frig they want to, for all I care. I just want them to stop legislating it.

    >>But surely the individual Christian is a victim of the brainwashing? Why attack them?<<

Because it's the individual that votes.
