Teens: What do you think of high school class rings?

Honestly, it just BOGGLES my mind that ANYONE would pay $200 for that ring. Like most of them are all chunky and ugly. And really who would wear it more than once?

We have an assembly for juniors about class rings so I'm interested about what they have to say... probably something like "you'll cherish it for a lifetime" LOL.

[but I'll probably tell my parents I want one and they'll probably grudgingly say yes and then I'll just be like "sike nah but can you give 20 bucks and take me Salvation Army real quick" and they probably will cos they're saving money lol!!]

If you have that much money to blow, I'd spend it on something I KNOW I'd cherish for a lifetime. Like a better computer, or a bunch of cool video games, or just plain old paying bills. But in my school, many other people do have that much money to blow without a second thought, and if it isn't hurting anyone I suppose there's wrong with it. It's just overmarketed a bit, I feel.

BQ: No. I want nothing in rememberance of my school except for good memories and keeping in contact with a few close friends.

  • I actually wanted one, in my birthstone. My school had some really nice, non-chunky, but delicate options. I didn't buy one though. With college attendance fees, dorm fees, and prom it just wasn't in the budget.

Yes, it's unnecessary, but that's not the point. It's great memorabilia. Even if you think you hate high school you're always going to have at least a few memories that you'll look back on and smile. It's a token for getting through those years.

Not a teen, but didn't buy one, and if your wear one in university/ college then you are essentially fresh meat (freshman) and will prolly pawn that for booze at some point...

I literally know absolutely no one that has one that they still keep. High school is just high school

Since I'm the first generation in my family to graduate from an American high school, I think I would most definitely buy one (despite the hefty price tag). It'd be cool so that in the future my great-great-grandkids would think, 'Wow, this is great-great-grandma's high school class ring when she lived in America'. TBH, I've always wanted a class ring from all the movies and books I've read regarding it. I'd cherish it.

Australian, so we don't have them here but I've looked them up.

Apparently you buy them as a senior as a kind of "coming of age" symbol or something like that.

They're pretty stupid looking anyway, and $200 is a complete rip-off.

Better to buy a clothing item you know you would keep after high school and keep it as a symbol of your senior years. Something cheaper but you like it more and it has more meaning than a stupid clunk of metal.

I agree with you. Class rings are expensive. Last year, when I was a senior, I decided not to get one. They look super chunky. I prefer delicate rings, but schools have to make them gender neutral, and apparently, chunky rings are more masculine. They're super big and gaudy.

BQ: I did not get one.

  • I think they're nice and a good way to remember the good ol' days of high school, but they are waayyy overpriced and you really aren't going to wear it outside of high school, because from then on all it's going to do is sit around and remind you of those days, but a yearbook can also do the same thing, and aren't those like $50?

    They're expensive, unnecessary, and useless.

We don't have them in Australia. $200 for a high school ring seem a bit steep...
