Why do Christians worship Jesus, a person, rather than "God"?

"Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

If this is the First and Great Commandment,

Why do Christians worship Jesus, a person who lived among the Jews in the middle of the 1st century AD, rather than "God"?

    When the Church in the 2nd and 3rd century decided to elevate Jesus to being equal with his Father, and then drug in the holy spirit, to complete their Trinity, the course of placing Christ ahead of the Father was complete.

    They had a compassionate figure (since they never really got to know the Father) and by the usual tool of Trinity based religions, the Father is minimized, and the Son is glorified. The holy spirit was an embarrassment, because in most of the traditional Trinities, the Mother is the third party, and well, because of poor planning, the holy spirit got the short shift.

    But the Catholics solved that by developing a worship of Mary, (as in the famous "Hail Mary" prayer) and calling on her to talk to her Son about their problems.

    When you corrupt a system (using lies and false stories) you end up with illogical and conflicting positions.

    When the Protestants broke of, they keep the Son as the main God, and put Mary down to a lower level. But they keep the same lies about the relationship between him and the Father. Again it is another case of not knowing the Father and a desire to have a pleasant figure head.

    So as Eve of Destruction said, true Christians DO know the Father, Jehovah God and place him above all others.

    Jesus was born of the Father before time. Jesus is 100% God. Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father only. Holy Spirit is 100% God. Jesus incarnated. Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. His body felt pain but didn't have the original sin (eating of the forbidden fruit by Adam and Eve). After crucifiction, Jesus preached in hell. Those who believed, got out of hell. After resurrection, Jesus has a body that doesn't feel pain; He is still considered to be 100% God and 100% man. Holy Spirit (who proceeds from the Father) descended upon God-bearer when She agreed to conceive the Word (Jesus). Jesus incarnated this way. She always remained a virgin: before, during, and after. She didn't have personal sins (by the grace of God) but the original sin (eating of the forbidden fruit by Adam and Eve) was on Her; so, Jesus is Her Saviour too. She died 15 years after Christ's ascension; Jesus resurrected Her body in 3 days.

    For example, some Bible verses allude to Jesus Christ as a god. (Isaiah 9:6, 7; John 1:1, 18) Does this mean that Jesus is to be worshipped? Jesus himself said: “It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.” (Luke 4:8) Clearly, although Jesus is mighty in power and divine in nature, the Bible does not portray him as an object of worship.

    They claim Jesus is god, which means the bible goes a little something like this:

    A perfect God created everything and put imperfect man on a flat earth with sin.

    He was then unhappy so he impregnated a woman with himself, to then sacrifice himself as a tribute to himself in order to save us from the sin he gave us.

    Make sense?

    To be fair, there are other verses which can be used to prove that Jesus is God. And also some that can be used to prove that he is NOT God. Its up to you to pick your choice and 'explain away' the other verses.

    Collossians 2:9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;

    2:9 the fullness of Deity. Christ possesses the fullness of the divine nature and attributes (see notes on 1:19; Jn 1:14–16). bodily. In Greek philosophical thought, matter was evil; spirit was good. Thus, it was unthinkable that God would ever take on a human body. Paul refutes that false teaching by stressing the reality of Christ’s incarnation. Jesus was not only fully God, but fully human as well.

    Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

    1:15–20 One component in the heresy threatening the Colossian church was the denial of the deity of Christ. Paul combats that damning element of heresy with an emphatic defense of Christ’s deity.

    1:15 image of the invisible God. See note on Heb 1:3. The Gr. word for “image” is eikōn, from which the Eng. word “icon” derives. It means, “copy” or “likeness.” Jesus Christ is the perfect image—the exact likeness—of God and is in the very form of God (Php 2:6; cf. Jn 1:14; 14:9), and has been so from all eternity. By describing Jesus in this manner, Paul emphasizes that He is both the representation and manifestation of God. Thus, He is fully God in every way (cf. 2:9; Jn 8:58; 10:30–33; Heb 1:8).

    the firstborn of all creation. Cf. v. 18. The Gr. word for “firstborn” can refer to one who was born first chronologically, but most often refers to preeminence in position, or rank (see note on Heb 1:6; cf. Ro 8:29). In both Greek and Jewish culture, the firstborn was the ranking son who had received the right of inheritance from his father, whether he was born first or not. It is used of Israel who, not being the first nation, was however the preeminent nation (cf. Ex 4:22; Jer 31:9). Firstborn in this context clearly means highest in rank, not first created (cf. Ps 89:27; Rev 1:5) for several reasons:

    1) Christ cannot be both “first begotten” and “only begotten” (cf. Jn 1:14, 18; 3:16, 18; 1Jn 4:9);

    2) when the “firstborn” is one of a class, the class is in the plural form (cf. v. 18; Ro 8:29), but “creation,” the class here, is in a singular form;

    3) if Paul was teaching that Christ was a created being, he was agreeing with the heresy he was writing to refute; and

    4) it is impossible for Christ to be both created, and the Creator of everything (v. 16).

    Thus Jesus is the firstborn in the sense that He has the preeminence (v. 18) and possesses the right of inheritance over “all creation” (cf. Heb 1:2; Rev 5:1–7, 13). He existed before the creation and is exalted in rank above it

    1:16 thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. Cf. 2:15; Ro 8:38; Eph 1:21; 3:10; 6:12; 1Pe 3:22; Jude 6. These are various categories of angels whom Christ created and rules over. There is no comment regarding whether they are holy or fallen, since He is Lord of both groups. The false teachers had incorporated into their heresy the worship of angels (see note on 2:18), including the lie that Jesus was one of them, merely a spirit created by God and inferior to Him. Paul rejected that and made it clear that angels, whatever their rank, whether holy or fallen, are mere creatures, and their Creator is none other than the preeminent One, the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The purpose of his catalog of angelic ranks is to show the immeasurable superiority of Christ over any being the false teachers might suggest. all things have been created through Him and for Him. Cf. Ro 11:33–36. See notes on Jn 1:3; Heb 1:2. As God, Jesus created the material and spiritual universe for His pleasure and glory.

    1:17 He is before all things. When the universe had its beginning, Christ already existed, thus by definition He must be eternal (Mic 5:2; Jn 1:1, 2; 8:58; 1Jn 1:1; Rev 22:13).

    hold together. Christ sustains the universe, maintaining the power and balance necessary to life’s existence and continuity (cf. Heb 1:3).
