Can you adopt with a misdemeanor?

I got arrest 5 years ago for a misdemeanor in domestic violence reckless conduct. I haven't had an issues with the law, wasn't sent to jail or had to pay any fines. I was just subject to 1 year probation that I had no issues completing. Would I be able to adopt a child in India if I were to try to adopt? I was young back then and was foolish in how I acted and regret everything I did. I have tried looking everywhere online about it and all it does is talks about felonies and other issues that will sometimes cause it to fall through. thanks a ton :)

Arrest happened in Maine..

I would go with probably not. You're going to need to talk to a social worker to find out for sure.

If it was 5 years ago and it hasnt happened at all again and it wasnt related to child abuse, you would need to clear it with CPS. There have been some who have been able to obtain clearance for when adopting from foster care in the US (depends on the county and state). Not sure about international adoptions, but all you need to do is is contact CPS in your area and inquire.

Foster care would be out since it's through the State.

If you wanted to adopt, your best chances would be to find a local adoption agency and be up front.

Domestic Violence - Not a snow flakes hope in hell. Frankly the timbre of your question itself would be sufficient for me to rule you out. I have to tell it as it is in my profession, clients don't like it tough - hey ho - don't do the crime etc young man or blame others for your "misdemeanors", lack of legal knowledge, or the modus operandi to get the answer to a simple question.

It would depend on where you adopted from, and how old you were. Probably not though.
