What is residential eating disorder treatment like? Advie for me?
I'm and 15 yr old overweight restrictive bulimic and a compulsive overexerciser.
I want to recover because I'm sick of heart palpitations, blue fingers and toes, dizziness, my hair falling out, fainting, purging blood, depression, and anxiety. The only way for me to recover is through residential treatment, I've already tried inpatient and outpatient and it hasn't helped. My parents can't get me to eat, they usually trigger me and that makes me restrict or b/p more. I want to recover and considering outpatient help again but I think I need to tell my therapist I need to go residential (which they were considering before I quit the program).
Can anyone tell me their experience with residential? Or does anyone have any advice to give me?

OK, first up - as a mental health worker working with people with ED, the first thing I look for is if that person is trying to hide weight loss - ie baggy clothes, layers etc. A BMI of 19 is low but not low enough to be sectioned but you are getting close. It seems to me like you need to start telling your Psych the truth - whether that's what you've said here or something else. If you are trying to be healthy then he will help you. If you are starting to fall ill again, tell him the truth and he will help you. What on earth do you think you will achieve by lying or hiding under layers??? If you want to stay out of a treatment centre, you need to open up to those that are there to support you. They can give you the help, support and advice you need to stay out of one. If you try to do this on your own (as you have been and have lost 30lbs) you will continue to lose weight, become more and more ill, become more and more controlled by your illness and yes, be placed in residential treatment centre and they ain't nice places. Stand up, be brave and be honest. Good luck!! x
