The AMD FX line are surprisingly good performers compared to the Intel lineup. At least as far as multi-threaded performance goes. They fall behind in single-threaded performance somewhat. If you have a look at the Passmark ratings of all of the high-end AMD 8-core processors, they are all better performers than any of the Core i5 processors, and they are thoroughly mixing it up against much more expensive Core i7 and Xeon server processors.
There are 5 high-end 8-core FX processors, they range from highest to lowest: 9590, 9370, 8350, 8320, and 8150. The highest one the FX-9590 ranks 32nd overall in the list, and the lowest ranks 112th overall.

The highest two Core i5's in the list are the 4670K ranked 109, and the 4670 ranked 115. So the two highest i5's just straddle around the lowest FX-8150.

But the days of high-end super-CPU's may be coming to an end anyways. The reason the Intel single-thread performance advantage was so important to gaming in the past was because the Microsoft DirectX API used by games was so inefficient that it only used one CPU thread to feed all of the data to the GPU. AMD is about to change all of that, it's introduced a new gaming API called Mantle. Mantle co-exists with the DirectX API while at the same time it competes against it. The big advantage of Mantle is that it spreads the workload of the cores much more evenly, by making the job of feeding the GPU's much more even-handed, in fact the GPU itself helps partly in feeding itself. This only works with AMD video cards, not Nvidia, but it will work either Intel or AMD CPU's. This means that much less powerful CPU's will work much better with games. Some benchmarks have shown as much as 50% better performance from games running under Mantle vs. DirectX.

Most of these people who are answering your question are idiots. I've watched benchmarks comparing the i5 to the fx 8 core, and the fx almost always out performs the i5. It will also have better future support then the intels now for gaming (considering the xbox one and ps4 both have 8 core amds). However, a cpu at that level has a very little impact on framerates. Save the money, get an amd, and put that extra money towards a better gpu.

Well It really doesn't matter, unless when your a spoiled picky brat wants a CPU that doesn't skip a single FPS during game play. Well I go with AMD FX Bulldozer, because i have FX-4100 Quad-Core and it is a beast on games! as long as you have at least 4 CPU cores Intel or AMD. If your planning to use a beast CPU go with 1k Intel i7 haha if you wanted a Hardcore PC. lol Call of duty MW3 only requires dual-core CPU. Ghost requires 4 CPU Cores so why get Expensive CPU if you can run cheaper!

Amd eight core is better. It doesn't have integrated graphics though. If you don't have a powerful graphics card, then get the i5 as it has integrated graphics that will run games at low or medium settings. Amd apus though have integrated graphics.

The only thing you need is quad core for gaming , the amd fx 8350 is more bang for your bucks also great for multi-tasking now what about the graphic card to help run games at high settings the r9 270x is good also the gtx 760

Intel > AMD
I ran an FX 8350 then switched to the i7 4770k and haven't looked back since. Lower power consumption, better single core performance (which is important in gaming), and just as much overclocking ability. It is silly to compare the two companies. There is a reason AMD is giving up on their high end CPU line and focusing on APU's, and that is because Intel is 2 years ahead of them in terms of development and they will never catch up to them.

CPU won't have too much of an impact on gaming compared to your GPU but it might have 1-5FPS differences.
Intel's i5 will be better for most current games because of its incredible single core performance compared to AMD's CPUs. This is true for all of Intel's CPUs compared to AMD including i3s and i7s. Most games today only use one or two cores max and Intel's single core performance increase will greatly benefits games in this sense. The same goes for programs such as Adobe Photoshop that take better use of single core speeds.

all Future game will use All processor's Cores that mean more core more Performance. and AMD FX8350 has 8 core so it Would be better in future games.
Crysis 3 use all cores.

since you are a hardcore gamer better go with i5 since it is best for gaming purpose because of its powerful and efficient cores
pair it with good graphics card
amd fx 8 cores is good for budget minded people who needs good performance at decent price and also for good multitasking
