4+c-1+7c=17c
Bring all the c terms to one side
c+7c-17c = -4+1
=> -9c = -3
=> c = -3/-9
=> c = 1/3

First, combine like terms:
3+8c=17c
Next, get all the "c"s on one side of the equation by subtracting 8c from both sides:
3=9c
Next, divide each side by 9 to isolate the c. That gives you:
C=(3/9)
Which equals:
C=(1/3)

4 + c - 1 + 7c = 17c, for c:
combine like terms:
3 + 8c = 17c
subtract 8c from both sides:
3 = 9c
divide both sides by 9:
c = 3/9 = 1/3
