How would one potty train a four month old puppies?

I've got three puppies which are about four months old. We keep them outside on the patio. There's an entrance to the backyard from the patio. They often use the exit to go out and play. But they eat, pee, and poo on the patio. I've rubbed their nose in it...that failed. Someone suggested washing the patio with bleach, and that was done...that failed too. They will actually go and smell their poo and walk away! When we go to catch 'em, they seem to know y we want them, so they run. This implies they know they've done something wrong. Everytime the poo is scooped, it is thrown away in the yard, thinking that animals go by smell, and if they smell their own waste in the yard, they'll poo there...that failed too. I'm outta ideas, but need to train 'em soon. They're harder to train as full grown dogs anyhow. Thanks for the help.

Three puppies at once is insane. Keeping them on a patio is no life anyway, I would rehome at least two of them. They aren't going to learn anything if you're not watching them all the time. Of course they run when you go to catch them. I would have absolutely no expectations in this situation.

Would you potty train a child by rubbing their nose in it?

    What would htat teach them?

To run away from their abusive Mother,. thats all.

It doesn't teach them where you WANT them to go.

You have done no research at all. I hope you are a troll.

No one should get 3 puppies, and you should know how to house train before you buy a dog.

You take them to the toilet spot and reward them for using it. Its not rocket science.

Rehome 2 of the pups and bring the third indoors. When it is a year old and you have trained it, get your second dog.

Don't let him wander around the house. Confine him to the kitchen with a child safety gate when you can't watch him, until he is housetrained. Or crate train him.

Mark off a toilet spot for him to use, bait it with some of his poop and pee stained paper to give him the idea. For male dogs consider putting in a pee post - a short wooden fence post or log is ideal.

Once an hour put him on the lead and take him out to the toilet spot. You can say 'Do you want to go out?' as you open the door.

Wait patiently. When he goes, give your chosen command 'thats the spot' or 'busy', and give lots of praise and a food reward. Make sure you use enthusiastic praise and a high value treat - try a crumb of cheese or hot dog. Find something he really likes and don't give it to him any other time.

Rubbing their nose in it never worked,

Your dog needs to be told the Patio is a bad idea, but you never told them Where else?

a dog cant Rationalise, a Walk is fun but the dog doesnt understand the walk si ALSO so he wont poo and pee in the house.

When a dog has to go he usually gives off signs,( Standing close to the door or moaning a bit.) Read these signs and if needed put a command on it.

Make sure your dog is punished when he poops at the Patio, however when you take him for a walk and he pee's against a tree its party time, If needed just put a command to it, '' Go pee'' When she's about to pee.

Pee on Patio"Bad dog, BAD DOG!

Pee against Tree: Party and treats time!

Repeate untill done, the dog is 4 months old it could take a while,

now remember 90% of all dogs are Bribable

Never rub a dog's nose in it. Never yell at a dog, hurt a dog, or scare a dog. Three puppies at once is ridiculously difficult! You'll end up with three ruined dogs that you don't want and nobody else wants. Find good homes for two of the puppies, and bring the other inside to live with you.

THEN get another dog if you still want one.
