Is this a normal thing to go through?
I'm currently 16 about to be 17 in two months. I'm struggling emotionally. On October 8th 2012 I was diagnosed with non Hodgkin's lymphoma. I found out I was cancer free on February 22 2013. That was my sophomore year. Im now in my junior year of high school. I thought I would finally be able to recover from having the cancer freshman year and feeling shitty and beating the cancer sophomore year and this is my first real year of high school where something isn't wrong but im suffering with the emotional toll having cancer has had on me. I'm not the weight is like to be because of all the steroids and everything they gave me I had to gain weight. I'm very insecure and unconfident about myself. I've become extremely shy towards peoe I don't really know and I dont really have that many girls that are friends because of it. It's a struggle everyday to notay down and just give up. My dad told me I need a social life and that I need to start talking to girls again like I used to.

I had a really hard time at that age as well. I think it's an ugly age for a lot of people (not all, but a lot) and one thing that helped me was joining the drama club. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't fond of acting at all - - but it meant that I was hanging out with people for a few hours a couple nights a week, and people who spend time together, tend to befriend each other. It's just a social phenomena. And you don't have to have talent either - we spent a lot of time building sets and painting, etc.
It's just an idea - my point being, join something.
Another idea, is ask the social worker where you were treated if they have a support group for teens that have been through cancer. In my area there are several - several times a week - but I live in a big city.
Ideas are a dime a dozen, take them for what it's worth.

Also my friends don't rely hang out they just go home and play xbox that's hanging out to them. I hang out with my friends whenever they actually say yes. My dad also told me I should have just gotten over it and I've tried but I can't. I want to gain confidence back be able to talk with mumbling or be able to hold up a conversation with someone I don't know without being too shy
