Ukraine. Why should the U.S. be so involved?

Is out interest really just regarding "democracy" "the right for Ukranians to determine their own governments? Doesn't Rssia have a legitimate interest in Ukraine? Should we just mind our own business?

Update:

Jimmy

I was a young teen. In my shcool, we were not allowed to discuss the events of 911. Anyway I don't see the connection. I do see after much study and research that the U.S. wasn't that transparent re the people responsible for 911. That a big overgrown Arab living in a case orchestrated such a tragedy was as unbelievable then as it is now,

I - along with many of my classmates then - and my college friends/associates now, are adamant in our belief that despite so-called 'evidence' that muslims were responsible for 911, that we have been lied to. Common sense dictates that some group right here in the United States planned and carried out the events of 911.

Update 2:

thatection:

that "a big overgrown Arab living in a (case) orchestrated such a tragedy was as unbelievable then as it is now"

Should have read,:

that "a big overgrown Arab living in a Cave orchestrated such a tragedy was as unbelievable then as it is now:

(Excuse error.)

If America minded its own business, how would it protect its hegemony?

This is not an attack on the great people of the USA; it's an attack on its government.

The FBI had a mole in Osama Bin Laden's group in 1993 and at that time he was looking for financing to attack the US. What is so unbelievable about it? What I found hard to believe was that the government was so unprepared knowing there were terror cells in the US.

The people of the Ukraine should decide their government themselves even if that means dividing the country in two. Only 17% in the Ukraine are Russian. Russia provides their energy. There are also pipelines into Europe to provide some of their energy from Russia. Russia is using force in the Ukraine and also looking for bases to use in Central and South America as a warning we better butt out. There is also a Russian ship in Cuba. Don't worry. I don't see Obama doing anything more than condemning them and a tsk tsk. He's too busy gutting our military.

Why should the US be involved? It's a flash-point, much like Serbia was in 1914 and Poland was in 1939. Our policy in those years was isolationism. We thought that if we ignored it we would not get sucked in. We were wrong on both points. At the end of WW II our diplomats (who had LIVED through both of those crisis) decided in a world of intercontinental range bombers and A-bombs waiting to get sucked in was counter-productive. Is being proactive today likely to prevent another World War? Hard to say, but it probably prevented on during the Cold War.

This is the most dangerous crisis since the end of the Cold War, and both the USA and Russia are lead by incompetent boobs who cannot really be trusted to do the right thing. We are in a very real danger of seeing World War III by the end of next week. Hopefully EVERYONE will have an attack of good sense, but I am not counting on it.

Basically us messing around in Ukraine would be like Putin trying to get the U.S. out of Canada or Mexico. It's just going to cause trouble and Obama's just trying to satisfy his own bruised ego, just like in Syria.

Well, when Bill Clinton was president, he in his infinite wisdom signed a treaty stating that the US would provide aid in protecting the Ukraine's borders. And now, the Ukrainian parliament has now reached out directly to the US (and all the countries who signed the treaty) for the help that was promised in that treaty.

So do we/the US break our promise?

Well we ignored what Germany and Japan were up to so I guess we can ignore it until it's so out of control that it becomes a world wide conflict.
