Which of these has better picture quality? (tv or monitor)?

I have been using a 19 inch 720p tv as a computer monitor. I am actually able to set the resolution to 1920x1080, but I don't know if it's actually displaying that resolution because it's only a 720p tv. I also have a 1280x 1024 monitor. Which has better quality?

Monitors are meant for close up viewing while TVs are meant for farther away viewing

So monitors have smaller pixels, while TVs have larger pixels
