Do dogs get liver spots?
My 11 year old was groomed yesterday, and today while rubbing his belly I noticed what look like liver spots (like old people get) around his penis area and below his butt. They are quite dark, but dont stick out or have any unusual texture. They just look like dark spots on his otherwise normal skin. I'm thinking it isnt anything to be concerned about, but just wondering.
He is due for one of his shots next month so I'll bring it up to the vet then (unless everyone here screams at me to get him checked NOW).
He's my first dog so I never dealt with a dog getting old before.
EDIT: Yes, its possible they have been there a while and I didnt notice, but they haven't been there forever. His skin is light and pretty much the same color all over. These spots are almost black so Im sure I would have noticed them before. I think because he was groomed I can see them now, where before I couldnt. He gets groomed every 3 months or so (a little longer this time because of the brutal cold) and I didnt notice after his last time.
He's a mini schnauzer by the way.

My 11 year old has the same things around the same area. I call them his sun spots from sun bathing outside so much. He is tan but the spots that have been gradually appearing are dark. In all the vet check-ups, the vet has never said anything about them.

Sometimes people don't notice spots on the skin until the dog is clipped short and they happen to look. So it's possible he's had the spots a long time.
That said, dogs do develop spots when they get older pretty often. Especially if they have light skin or blotched skin to begin with.

Depending on coat color and markings, a dog can have also show markings on the skin. So if they are not raised areas I suspect that is all you are seeing. Keep an eye on them to make sure they don't change in texture.
