Why wont Ukraine fight back?

They greatly downsized their military and even though they are the second largest (in population) Slavic nation after Russia, they do not have the capability of realistically stopping them. That is why they asked for diplomatic and economic (sanctions) help from the UN/EU/USA. However, if Putin moves into old Ukraine (the Crimea was an autonomous area added to the Ukraine by Khrushchev some sixty plus years ago), they will fight and will ask for NATO military help which they may well receive.

I believe they will. If, and this is a big if, Russia invades any Ukraine soil outside of crimea.

The russian presences their, although ill advised, and rash, can be understood given the 58% or so population of russians, (although that would be less if many people had not been shipped off to asia by stalin)

Personally i would have hoped mr putin would have gone to the UN or into a joint venture with nato or something and asked for a joint effort in crimea to ensure safety, sending in peacekeeping troops from the joint countrys could have avoided this being seen as a russian invasion by many.

That said the russian population in the entire ukraine as a whole isnt that large, 22-23% of which a large amount is obviously in crimea, so their is little excuse for invading the rest of the ukraine to protect a small minority of russians.

Basically the rest of the ukraine is a very different story than the crimea area. And i hope they go no further than they have, if so then a peace can still be made.

However if they do go further, I have absolutely no doubt, people will fight, people will kill people will die. Will the rest of the world get physically involved ? who knows, maybe not, but even if they dont many will still die.

People will not give up their homeland freely and many lives will be lost needlessly.

Putin provokes Ukraine, he wants blood sacrifices. Ukrainian government did not follow his script. Now all the people of Ukraine teamed against Putin.

I think because so many of their people support Russia,are Russian themselves and have asked Russia for help. I think the west are slowly realising Russia have a case which I could have told them from the first.

The Ukraine is divided. Many of them support Russians being there. many of them do not.

This is what happens when a country is divided.

Ukrainian government asked for help, the Ukrainian people didn't.. so I don't know what story you heard.

Also Russians have citizens of their own living in the Ukraine, they also asked for help because they are being hit by both sides of the civil war.

It is overwhelmed.
