Please help me for my year 11 essay?
Ok so this year our class started essay's for the first time in our lives. It's about conflict. I kinda get it so far but 'The Refugees' by Herbert Read is one of our texts and i need a quote and technique from that poem. Don't get me wrong i know some techniques but nothing really goes well because we have to choose another text of our choice which goes well with that poem. Would Julia Gilards speech to parliament be a good one since both of them talk about voices?
Herbert Reads 'The Refugee's' poem:
Herbert Read (1914)
Mute figures with bowed heads
They travel along the road:
Old women, incredibly old
and a hand cart of chattels.
They do not weep:
their eyes are too raw for tears.
Past them have hastened
processions of returning gunteams
baggage wagons and swift horsemen.
Now they struggle along
with the rearguard of a broken army.
We shall hold the enemy towards nightfall
and they will move
mutely into the dark behind us,
only the creaking cart disturbing their sorrowful serenity.
