Is Dirk Nowitzki the best all around 7 footer to ever play the game ?

Right now Nowitzki is shooting- 50% from the floor- 40% from 3 pt. range & 92 % at the free throw line. By the end of the year he should be one of the top ten scorers in NBA history . BUT is he really better than Shaq, Chamberlain, Kareem, Parish, Ewing, Robinson, Mutombo, Olajuwon ?

All them guys are greats and legends. But Dirks a different kinda 7 footer he could out shoot everyone on the list From 3 or anywhere on the floor. He may not have the back to the basket game or blocks like the players you have listed but I promise you they aren't even close to Dirk when it comes to FTs 3s and Jump shooting therefore he belongs in the list. Where is a matter of opinion. Hes a PF/C that's revolutionized that position .

He's better then Parish, Ewing, and Mutombo. Robinson maybe, Dirk may be the better shooter, but during his careery Robinson was ROY in 1990, DPOY in 1992, then won the scoring title in 1994. The only other player to win all three of those awards is Michael Jordan.

I would put Dirk behind Shaq, Wilt, and Hakeem. Shaq and Wilt were physical freaks who could overpower people, but had plenty of talent as well. Kareem and Hakeem were great all-around players, not just great scorers but they could also pass and rebound and play great defense defense. Dirk is a great shooter, but the rest of his game isn't quite up to those standards.

Skills-wise? It's between him and Hakeem. Physical dominance, no. However, Dirk plays like a SG/SF, especially early in his career so I don't think it's fair to compare Dirk with pure centers. Actually I believe you can't compare him with anyone YET.

I think the best all-around 7-footer is Arvydas Sabonis. Too bad the NBA did not have him in his prime.
