Property affordability: Berlin vs London?

Building quality in Germany is generally the same as in the UK for old buildings, but better than the UK for newer buildings. That said, there are still a lot of buildings in Berlin left over from the East German times, which weren't built as well as the West Berlin ones.

Property sizes in city centres are more or less the same in both cities, ie. small (relative to suburbs or other towns/cities) as buildings tend to be relatively old and building land is scarce and expensive.

Housing costs in London are extremely high by international standards, so you will find that you pay relatively less in Berlin (or get more for the same money), although not by a huge margin.

PS: I'm not sure I would agree that you cannot or don't want to live in London with an average income (and BTW, there's no such thing as 'middle class salary', FYI), evidently millions of people can and do.

the cost of living in Berlin is a lot less than in London, and I mean a lot. Berlin is probably the least expensive capital in Western Europe.
