A non-chicken can lay a chicken-egg, but a non-chicken-egg cannot hatch a chicken, since it has the same DNA as the adult bird.
Therefore, no matter where you draw the (completely arbitrary) line between non-chickens and chickens, the chicken-egg came first.

Just read on the news the other day, thanks to 3 free reuters news, that the age old question of what came first has seemingly, finally been answered!! Apparently latest research has established that the egg shell consists of certain cells, enzymes (some scientific term can't remeber) which can only be found in the chicken resulting in the need of a chicken to form those cells to form the egg! So the chicken had to be first!!(evolution mambo jumbo wise)
If we say that the egg must have come first then wouldn't that beg the question 'in what state was Aadam (as), or any other creation for that matter, in at first? Man or baby, drop of sperm etc? Of course we now that he was fashioned as a fully formed human after which life was given. Can we or shouldn't we believe it the same with all other creation?
Be and it is, in regards to the first creation of all the different creations and then the process of reproduction, growth etc which Allah has kept kicked in?

Neither. It was the noodle. The chicken wasn't invented until someone cooked a bunch of noodles and said "these are nice, but they'd probably taste better with chicken". That's when chicken was invented.
The egg was invented as an afterthought, when someone (probably the same guy) said "Gee I had chicken noodles for dinner last night, but what do I want for breakfast". I'm not sure if bacon was invented before or after that, though. Probably after, since bacon comes in shrink-wrap.
