What happend to the Oakland Raiders?
Many people think that Al Davis ruined the club by not letting the coaches have coaching duties. But he did the same thing since the 1960's, he became head coach of the club, and it went from worst to first in the AFL, then became owner, and helped the team win 3 super bowls, and appear in how many conference titles. Why do you think that one of the most popular and winning teams, became a yearly bottom ten club.

As much as I love Al Davis & all the success he had for most of his life, I got to admit he pretty much ruined the Raiders single-handedly. First off, the Raiders were always this rough in-your-face team that some people would say played without rules, they had no discipline at all & just went wild on the field. That system was great back in the day, but now all it does is create more penalties & cost us games. Then, Al realized he wasn't getting any younger so he opted for a quick rebuild over a slow gradual one so he could win a ring one more time in his life. He signed all these superstars that had already run their course for waaaay too much money, they underperformed, and that put us in cap hell. I do think the Raiders will eventually come back to glory tho, Reggie McKenzie is definitely taking this team in the right direction and if they can make a splash in free agency & the draft along with keeping Veldeer & Houston, they can be a .500 team next season

Al Davis tried to apply 1960's philosophy to today's NFL is why, add that to giving the wrong players huge contracts and poor drafting, and you have what has plagued that franchise for the most part.

Actually, my best guess is that many Oakland Raiders players have a poor work ethic. Had these Raiders players worked hard and performed very well in practice every day, they would have greatly improved their chances of being successful, top notch NFL players for the Raiders.
