Receipt for donations in 2013?
We made a lot of donations of clothes and household items last year because we downsized from a huge house to a 2 bedroom condo. I made a list of everything we donated with the intention of estimating the value once we got settled into our new place. Of course, now that it's tax time, I can't find the receipt from the charity we donated to or the list of items we donated.
My husband says we can just deduct it and only need to worry about the receipt later, if we get audited. Is that true? I know I wouldn't have thrown it away on purpose, but in the move it's possible that it got thrown away accidentally.
Should we take the deduction and hope we find the receipt and list if we get audited?

You need support and evidence for your deduction if challenged by the IRS. You need to also file Form 8283 with the required details. You need to contact the donee organization and get support for the deductions now to be conservative and prudent. If you fail to do all of this and you are audited and the deductions are disallowed you will pay more in taxes, plus you will pay interest and various penalties.

Official answer, no you can't deduct it if you don't have the documentation. It's not likely to be enough to trigger an audit though. You know that the value you can deduct is only the amount the thrift shop would sell the items for, not what you paid for them? And you only get any deduction at all if you itemize.n you
Can you aat least recreate the list for any large items?

If you cannot find it now what makes you think you can find it 2 years from now if audited. Find it.
