Should a presidents tenure be constitutionally limited to a single 6 year term?

Given that most two term presidents are lame ducks after 6 years anyway? Plus it would mean that the sitting president would not be campaign for reelection for the better part of his (or her) 4th year in office.

That's something that has been discussed from time to time. I can't see such a constitutional amendment ever going anywhere since both parties would think they had something to lose. The only reason we have term limits now is because the Republicans were shut out of the white house for 20 years due to Roosevelt. They retook congress for two years and passed the term limit amendment, which was ratified by the states.

I agree with mommanuke about there not being a lifetime ban on terms, just consecutive ones.

I could see that BUT ONLY IF you also limit congress to one 4 year term ever, stop all congressional pay raises and cut that pay in half beginning 1st year of seving then we might get a government who will work like the rest of us have too and eliminate life long carreer criminals from the government.Sounds like a plan, well one can always hope!

I think that would be an excellent idea for ALL elected offices. But I would allow them to run again after being out for one term. People who are good for the country shouldn't be banned forever after one term.

Yes.. I have thought that for many years..It would cut out the money and time wasted running for a second term..

Yes. Good thought. And everyone else 8 years....except Supreme Court.

I like that, although it is my opinion and my concern that there will not be another presidential election.
