can I use 4 year old diesel fuel in my car?
Four years ago I stashed away 1000litres of diesel for a rainy day. I now understand it may have deteriorated, oxidized. It is stored in 200litre blue plastic containers, tightly closed , very little air space, ave temp 26C . can I filter it to remove unwanted s?

The fuel itself does not easily degrade, it should last a number of years however the problem is bacteria. Over a long storage period bacteria can be produced (mainly when water from something such as condensation) meets the diesel. This bacteria is very nasty and thrives off the diesel (basically eats it, not something you want to put into your fuel tank).
There are services such as "fuel polishing" where the diesel is run through a vigorous filter system to remove any of the such bacteria which I would recommend (or at least get it tested beforehand)
Once this is done and the fuel is clean you can take some precautions with the diesel while it is back in storage such as monitoring condensation and agitating the fuel often.
Hope this has helped
