how do you type out an interview that is not using exact quotes?

my daughter did an interview but she just took down jot notes instead of exactly what the person said so how do you type that up? how would you do it? you can't put quotations around what was said as it isn't an exact quote??!!

    You report what the person said as indirect discourse.

    Instead of saying this:

    Mr. Jones said, "I have invented a time machine."

    you would say this:

    Mr. Jones said that he had invented a time machine.
