What is illegal about ZzzQuil and melatonin?
I bought ZzzQuil at Walmart, near the vitamins, didn't even get carded or asked for my age. I also bought Melatonin at Walmart which is a sleep aid/dietary supplement. I had a simple question about if its harmful to use both at the same time, because neither were effective by themselves. Yahoo deleted my question, I appealed it and they said it was deleted for "illegal drug use". So yahoo is apparently trying to tell me basically if I were to go in front of a police officer, take 1 melatonin pill, and take 2 tablespoons of ZzzQuil I would for sure be arrested right on the spot, because that is "illegal drug use". But I don't think that it is, I'm pretty sure that is 2 perfectly legal drugs, being used together. Now if I could do this, all in front of a police officer, and not be arrested, or even questioned further than him asking "what was that?" I'm sure this is not illegal drug use. Is the people over at yahoo answers really this stupid? Or am I mistaken, are these 2 perfectly legal items you can purchase at Walmart at the same time illegal?

Zzquil is indeed an over the counter product, which does not make it harmless, it just means you should be able to read the label and use it properly. Not every product is safe - which is why you need to be careful.
The same goes for melatonin, which is a hormone that tells your body when to rest.
Do not combine these two things, and don't take either one of them without speaking to your doctor. You could just as easily be using these two things incorrectly and mess your sleep patterns up worse. Just because you can buy these things doesn't make them what you really need.
the makers of Zzquil are well aware that kids misuse it - which is likely also why your question was deleted. Even if someone thing is technically legal, that does not make it a good idea for you to take. You could just as easily ask if you could take 25 tylenol, that would be technically legal as well- and lethal.
There are plenty of reasons for you to not be able to sleep.
If you spend a lot of time on the computer - especially playing video games with blinking lights and sound, or watching TV, that can overstimulate your brain and not allow it to rest. Exercise is helpful, as is a diet of more more protein than most kids get, fruits and vegetables- but no caffeine or refined sugars, and nothing sweet in the few hours before bed. If you're drinking caffeinated drinks or eating chocolate, that could easily keep you up all night, even if you stopped before noon. If you had a big bowl of ice cream or even bananas, you would have trouble falling asleep because of the sugar in your system.
Stay away from the medications - OTC or not - and go speak to your doctor about not being able to sleep. THey can help you figure it out safely, without having you risk adjusting your system or worse yet, risking a drug overdose. OTC or not- this stuff can be dangerous, even if you do what it says on the label. Especially if you are young- your body works differently.
