Body piercing jewelry retainer question?
I am going to get my nipples pierced soon. Since I occasionally have MRI's and surgeries - not like monthly, but regularly enough for it to be of concern - I want to be prepared to have retainers. Only, the websites I am looking on don't specify which retainers work for nipples. I feel as if I will need a straight barbell, is this correct? Does anyone have any more information for me?

Yes, straight barbell is correct, typically started at 14 gauge; however, a nipple piercing on a female can take 6-12 months to fully heal. During that time you should not be putting plastic, acrylic, and like material in it. These materials are more porous and can trap bacteria, which can lead to an infection.
Visit a reputable professional piercer and discuss your options with them.
