all kinds of things to worship...in the Old Testament...they made a golden calf and worshiped it...but DUH...it wasn't God. We must worship the Creator and not the created..

The thing we need to realize is that people are built to love something, to pursue something, to fill an empty space in their lives, to have meaning and purpose. This cannot be denied. Some love and pursue power, some security, money, physical love, emotional love, some just want to laugh, some just want to feel, some want knowledge, some want wisdom, some want respect and recognition. But why? As animals, are these things necessary? We will always pursue a god, we will always pursue a fantasy. For some odd reason, no one is ever just satisfied. Intellectuals want something more, they want answers and something bigger than themselves. Those who don't care so much for intellectual complexity desire peace and serenity in a world where it is becoming an increasingly rare commodity. Even my dog who has everything she needs biologically just wants me to come outside and be with her. It doesn't matter if we play or run around or just sit there. She just wants me. A person to be with. Companionship.
I wish that atheists and religious people would just put down their guns and stop firing insults at each other. Neither of them benefit mankind through their actions. We act like children. Arguing on the internet is like hiding behind a wall. If you want to change people way of thinking, you must show them through your actions. No one ever said, "You know what... you're right... I am a stupid ^@*#^$ and I will change my ways."
Why can't we all admit that we all want something. Even without religion, we will all hold on to belief. This is a common ground that we can all stand on without the division of belief, race, nationality,or religion. Whether in a religious or intellectual sense, we are all brothers and sisters. Accept it. Strive to benefit mankind with your beliefs. Don't tear it down with hatred that comes from a lack of understanding.

Do people not know the difference between all the gods that have been worshipped over the millennia which were eventually discarded after they had run their course and the main god still in the running for the time being?
I shall give you a hint - we are living now and have not yet lived through its decline. If we lived a few hundred years hence, there is a strong possibility that that may have happened.
Granted the three biggest religions these days all seem to believe in the same one (in their own special ways), so it is likely that this god will not go down without a genocidal fight. That is his style after all.

I see no difference at all because there isn't any. All gods - yours too, rely on faith because no god can be proven. Yes right now the Christian deity is most popular but we all know Muslim birthrates will soon change that & place Allah in the No. 1 position. Sooner all gods turn into myths. Allah, God, The Golden Calf etc... That is because sooner or later everyone thinks up a new god.

And how do you prove that the god you speak of is the one true god? Let me guess, you will point to the bible and say "See, it says so right there!". What about the other religions that also claim their god is the true one? They can point to their texts and point out similar passages. So pointing to a text is not going to cut it. You will have to give some sort of evidence to indicate that the god you want everyone to worship is the correct one. Of course, you should start by proving that the god actually exists first.

No, Sunshine. There are thousands of gods, or thousands of ways of naming a god. If you read the way "Jehovah" behaves in the Old Testicle, he's no saner or more worship-worthy than any of the others.
If the story of Abraham and Isaac doesn't turn your stomach, the Book of Job certainly should. This "god" torments his "true believer" just to prove to a devil that the guy will take ANY abuse? He kills off his wives (note plural) and kids - but oh, that's okay, he gives him some NEW wives and kids to replace them?
I wouldn't have that crazy bastard in my home -- much less worship him.

True. The only true God is the Triune God, but any time we make anything more important in our lives than God That becomes our god. We Christians can be just as guilty of this as non-believers and it's worse for us because we should know better.
@ The Kanon Hara, I disagree, Atheists are their own gods.

So I've been told. Sorry but not a believer in the monotheistic god.
You do realize that there are many cultures right? Each with there own cultural deities? Such places couldn't even begin to grasp the concept that a deity they never heard of is apparently the only true deity.

All the gods in human history were made up by humans, including yours.
How is worshiping a book written by superstitious ancients any better than worshiping an idol?

Do you want to know one similarity between your God and those other gods? They both have the same amount of credible evidence to support their existence....none.
You can prove me wrong by providing that evidence.
EDIT: It's been 4 hours...still waiting on that evidence, sparky.

There is only one God according to you, that one God is a different God according to other people, there are no Gods according to others and there are many gods according to others. There is no reason beyond your upbringing as to why you chose the God you did.
